Daily interactions with the people around us are unavoidable. Unless we purposely isolate ourselves either physically or mentally, learning how to interact with those around us is crucial to building successful relationships in both personal or professional lives. Although interpersonal skills are inherent, like any other skills, some are more adept at it than others. Improving interpersonal skills ensure a more healthy relationship and create a firmer with our those we deal on a daily basis. Furthermore, strong interpersonal skills will create better group dynamics and ensure a better working environment in the work place. All of this will create a more productivity and produce more results. Interpersonal skills are needed to create leaders, resolves conflicts, and prevent problem and negativity in a healthy living and working settings.
What is Interpersonal Skill?
Interpersonal skill is the capability to understand yourself and others and to interact with others in any environments and conditions. It is also called People skills or Social Skills. Interpersonal skills are what we use with the people around us whether individually or in groups in a daily basis. They are grouped underneath a large umbrella of Life skills and a necessary part of Leadership skills.
Four main components of Interpersonal skills are: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and social interactions.
Self-awareness is recognizing and understanding your emotions and motivations and how the two affect your interactions with others. For example, a lack of confidence may be due to fear of rejection. It could lead to actively condemning those around you or a refusal to communicate.

If you can learn how to please your lover, you will never have to worry about losing that person. If you know how to please your boss or work well with your coworkers, you will always be able to be the light and the one everyone looks up to. In a working environment, knowing how to work well with not only your peers but your superior will get you anywhere you want in life. In business, if you know how to please your customers, you will gain loyal customers. We all have brands that we trusted because we know what to expect and that gives us comfort. For example, in the school setting therapist interact with students, teachers, counselors, parents, and administrators, who all form the ecological systems sorrunding the student. It also, distinguishes between the inner self that is how one feels from inside and the outer self, what other people see on you includes your appearance, verbal and nonverbal behaviour (Bulman and schutz,2004). Self awareness is not essential only for reflective learning but also for skilled professional nursing practice by having knowledge of one’s values belief and behaviour and how it affects others is important for developing good interpersonal skills and integrate therapeutic relationships with our clients.
There are all different types of communication that people will use through out their life. The most important type of communication is interpersonal communication. Interpersonal communication differs from other forms of communication in that there are few participants involved, the participants are in close proximity to each other, there are many sensory channels used, and feedback is immediate. Interpersonal communication is the information received from listening to what someone else is saying. Interpersonal communication always uses intonation, diction and enunciation to give meaning to information. Intonation, diction and enunciation sometimes give more meaning to what is being said than the actual words themselves. In the following paragraphs, I will explain to the reader the importance of interpersonal communication in business.

Interpersonal Relationships are one of the most important things in business and everyday life. A positive interpersonal relationship provides countless opportunities while a negative interpersonal relationship limits opportunities. Interpersonal relationships can be built with many different forms of communication but self-concept and self-disclosure play two of the biggest roles in forming positive interpersonal working relationships.

The purpose of this paper is not to teach you, or to show you how interpersonal communication is essential to everyday life at home or work. But, I am going to do my best to at least show you how essential communication skills are in all areas of life by using me as the example. My plan is to focus on some of the elements of interpersonal communication that we have been touching on this semester. While reading our Interpersonal Communications Book, three goals kept being highlighted that I personally wanted to accomplish by the end of course. I’m sure that by now have noticed that I keep referring to my topics as goals. The reason why I’m doing so is because I’m still on that learning curve…an ongoing process. If can recall back to all of our assignment in this course they all bring one collective point. That point is that, Interpersonal communication is an essential skill in everything that we do in life.
This reflective essay has critically reviewed my personal and professional skills that are essential for communication and developing positive relationships with others. It has discussed the skills identified in the skills audit that I needed more confidence in for communication and effective relationships.
