Essay Question: Choose one Web 2.0 platform discussed during module two and analyse the extent to which this platform has changed the way people communicate and collaborate.

The internet offers a place where people communicate using different platforms and on many different levels. The World Wide Web has changed the way people use the internet to communicate and collaborate with others. Blogging has become increasingly popular. Today, a blog is considered to be a Web page that serves as a publicly accessible personal journal for an individual or company (Quinstreet Enterprise, 2014). Blog's give people the opportunity to write content that is unique to them and their practice. This allows them to communicate and collaborate with others all over the world freely and quickly. Blogs also give people the freedom to share their ideas and thoughts with other people instantly from all over the world. This collaboration and communication through blogging plays an integral part for individuals, businesses and the media.

Blogs first began on the World Wide Web in 1994 and were developed for people to use a simple and free publishing tool to create their own personal writing space. It wasn’t until 1997 that the term “weblog” was coined. The term was created to reflect the process of “logging the web” as he browsed. (Chapman, 2011) “Weblog” was shortened to “blog” in 1999, by programmer Peter Merholz. Blogs were developed as a way for users to publish their ideas and views to other people over the internet and even promote or advertise products (Shelly, Gunter & Gunter, 2010). Blogs and blogging offer a highly interactive features for users when communicating and collaborating with others. Many individuals, both small and large businesses and traditional media outlets, now have their own blogs and are using them to reach a wide audience all over the world. Blogging is becoming a vital tool to help people share their knowledge and be informed. It helps individuals stay connected through their videos, photos, creativity, writing and incorporating links. Blogs have heavily impacted on the way students collaborate and communicate when learning. Blogs will continue to evolve and further change the way people are able to communicate and collaborate. As this technological age advances, blogging will continue to grow and the accessibility for people using them over the internet and World Wide Web facilities.
