Institutional racism is the most detrimental to the foundation of a healthy society because it helps to create inequality from the very beginning of a person’s life and helps continue the cycle of poverty. This type of racism is found in the structures of our social institutions and maintains the status quo between the dominant and subordinate social classes.
These social institutions are with us from the very beginning and through institutional racism social institutions give some people a good foundation in their education and some are given one that is sub-par. Take the schools in the Bronx as an example. Because schools in the U.S are funded based on the wealth in the surrounding areas poorer areas receive very little funding. So those …show more content…

Many companies do not recognize previous degrees or there may be a language barrier so like others who are struggling are forced into lower income areas which are being pushed further and further out of cities. This creates areas of extreme poverty and many people especially in those areas of poverty are depending on a system that is designed to fail them. Kids in these impoverished areas begin to lose hope, they may believe that they are not intelligent, which is wrong they were provided with the education they deserve. Many kids begin to drop out and in today 's society it is nearly impossible to get a good well paying and rewarding job let alone a career without a university or college education. Even if they do end up graduating high school or get a GED, tuition costs are continuing to skyrocket and getting a “full-ride” scholarship is nearly impossible. In the end young people are forced to make the difficult decision to either work multiple minimum wage jobs just to make ends meet or they have to sell drugs or enter any other illegal business. Getting involved in illegal activities especially in communities already known for criminal activity attracts police and legal troubles as well. Someone who has to rely on illegal means
