The success of any plan, strategy or process either at an organizational or individual level depends substantially on the level of creativity and innovation involved in the implementation process. However, the terms creativity and innovation have been incorrectly used interchangeably for a long time because most people lack awareness of their exact meanings, which to confusion in their use. Organizations or individuals that use innovative ideas rather than imitating the actions and strategies of others usually stand out from the rest and remain competitive because they are able to produce unique and quality brands, services and applications, which their competitors can only imagine. Blended with invention, creativity and innovation results to the creation of new and efficient processes, cost effective ways of doing things and design or production of new products. Thus, creativity and innovation are integral parts of the same process of idea generation, implementation and creation of a new product or one that offers improved features relative to those existing on the market. The purpose of this paper is to provide a double loop analysis of an article on creativity and innovation highlighting their differences, similarities and importance in process improvement.
Article Summary
In their research article “Innovation and Creativity in Organizations: A State-of-the-Science Review, Prospective Commentary, and Guiding Framework”, Anderson, Potocnik and Zhou (2014) are of the view that creativity and innovation are vital for the successful performance in any organization. Conclusion.
It is apparent that creativity and innovation are inevitable in the operations of any organization that anticipates success and competitive advantage. However, individuals and organizations use the terms interchangeably regardless of the differences in their meanings and stage of the improvement process in which they are significant. Innovation and creativity should not be defined collectively as the article states, rather they should be defined separately because are independent of each other. Creativity may be regarded a standalone process because it incorporates all the levels such as idea discovery, creation and invention, which are enough to provide a complete improvement process.
