Lille
Lille is a city in the north of France. Once know as the Manchester of France, because of its old textile mills. In the 1950’s it was a big coal-mining district, but recently the mines have dried up. Lille is most famous for its textiles as well but other countries make fabrics cheaper Lille- a short brief
And faster. One of Lille’s main businesses is a mail order company. They are the apparently the best in France.
Lille now has many advantages, main motorways that lead to other countries and around France, it has the euro star running through the city.
Lille is right by the border of Belgium. Which means many people can travel from Belgium to Lille for work. There are no more borders gates now. The E.U took them away so more people can travel to the city.
The modernisation of Lille took about £90 million pounds. The e.u paid about £5 million for the motorways.

Lille has changed in many ways, new roads, industries, offices and businesses. The whole conversion of Lille has made a big improvement on the place. More people can get work, more tourism and more people coming to life in the city. The city has wacky buildings, modern shopping centres and a new mail order that is the best in France. Which was converted from an old textile mill. First it just did clothes but now it did all.
Because of the new motorways, you can get to anyway in France from Lille. Great for the mail order company to deliver in 24 hours! Because Lille is so n...

...rrocans. Many of them are having big trouble finding jobs, some of been waiting years for one.
There are plenty of offices but not enough people want to start up their own buissness or they do but they just haven’t got the money. But if Lille did manage to find some more labour then the city would greatly improve by a great deal.
But since the 1950’s Lille has become quite modern. Lille has suffered ww1 because its close to flanders, it has suffered ww2 because it was right on the border belguims where the germans invaded first because they could not get past frances east defences so they went in from the top. The city has suffered revolution and many more but the current one of course is not enough jobs.
I think Lille is quite a nice city though. If they play their cards right they could be as famous as their capital, Paris. Well not quite but close to it.

The leading manufacturing industries are metallurgy, mechanical and electrical engineering, chemicals, and textiles. In 1986, France ranked third in Europe in steel production, with an output of 14.8 million metric tons and second in aluminum output. These and imported metals are fabricated into a wide range of mechanical and electrical equipment marketed throughout the world. French locomotives, turbines, electronics equipment, nuclear power plants and submarines, and television systems are famous for their innovative design, as are French automobiles, such as Citroen, Peugeot, Simca, and Renault, and French aircraft, such as Mirage, Concorde, and Airbus. In 1985, France ranked fourth in the world in production of passenger cars and third in output of commercial vehicles. A wide range of chemicals, including perfumes, pharmaceuticals, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and fertilizers, are also produced. The French textile and garment industry has long been known for its high fashion, although in recent years the industry has lost many former markets to lower-priced imports from countries with lower labor costs.
In chapter 8, the author Barry Bergdoll has written about how urban planners were reinventing new concepts to change and improve urban life as well as solve problems relating to poverty and congestion. The author continues the chapter discussing further in depth problems that occurred in Paris, France. For example, due to the narrow streets in Paris it limited and prevented military officers from stopping riots. However, for Napoleon Bonaparte the narrow streets were in his favor when he overthrew the government. Additionally, Napoleon Bonaparte had a goal to create a new more Modernist architecture layout for Medieval Paris by replacing the old layout. Also, Napoleon Bonaparte’s vision for the city of Paris included widen streets, so that
With the influx of people to urban centers came the increasingly obvious problem of city layouts. The crowded streets which were, in some cases, the same paths as had been "naturally selected" by wandering cows in the past were barely passing for the streets of a quarter million commuters. In 1853, Napoleon III named Georges Haussmann "prefect of the Seine," and put him in charge of redeveloping Paris' woefully inadequate infrastructure (Kagan, The Western Heritage Vol. II, pp. 564-565). This was the first and biggest example of city planning to fulfill industrial needs that existed in Western Europe. Paris' narrow alleys and apparently random placement of intersections were transformed into wide streets and curving turnabouts that freed up congestion and aided in public transportation for the scientists and workers of the time. Man was no longer dependent on the natural layout of cities; form was beginning to follow function. Suburbs, for example, were springing up around major cities. This housing arrangem...

don’t always see an interest in our own city’s history and development. It is important to understand how your own city came about. The World’s Fair was one example. Many people don’t know that St. Louis held the two biggest events in the world. One was the World’s Fair, and the other was the Olympics. More importantly, it was all in the same year, 1904. The Fair held in St. Louis was a great introduction to the United States becoming one of the greatest and biggest countries in the world. Today, it is even a world power. The city of St. Louis is an important and beautiful city with a great past. “The Gateway to The West” is definitely one of America’s greatest cities.
Lille Tissages, S.A. was one of the largest companies in the textile industry located in Lille, France.
There are plenty of high quality eateries and restaurants in Old Town, Metropolis Shopping Center, Casino Square, and Carré d’Or. Plenty of indoor and outdoor malls with designer stores, boutique shops, and jewelry companies has some of the best products on the consumer market.
New Orleans Louisiana was known for being a very free-spirited, lively, tourist destination. Many people went there for the amazing southern food, the Jazz music festivals, and just to have a pretty much guaranteed good time. On August 29th 2005 things changed; Hurricane Katrina ripped through the city with rage leaving it in ruins. The whole city flooded and thousands of people were forced out of their homes; and unfortunately, many people lost their lives. Although Hurricane Katrina altered New Orleans forever, the city has then come together and has made a very strong recovery. I’m here to tell you that after everything this city has been through it remains a rewarding tourist destination.
Compared to other countries, France’s economy is the fourth largest in the world. France is a very industrialized nation, yet it has kept some of the cultural characteristics that contribute to its old-world charm. The economy is “exceptionally diversified” (“Economic Structure”, 1). It produces everything from aircrafts to pharmaceuticals.

Its not a secret as to why the cities in Alsace are amongst the most visited in France. One might ask how a place that has been through so much war and tyranny can be so peaceful and beautiful. The people of the region have endured for many years, yet they welcome all with open arms. The food ranges from simple to magnificent and the history alone will leave you coming back for more. It’s quite an amazing part of France, holding so many old world traditions and beliefs near and dear. If the United States took notes on Alcase, I believe that the society we live in today would be a lot more refined and peaceful. Whether you’re an inspiring artist, a hungry foodie, a wine lover or just love breathtaking scenery, Alsace has something sure to please anyone.
Where is the one place in the world you would love to visit? The place that I would like to visit is Paris. The reason I would like to visit Paris is because of how nice and how wonderful the place looks. The thing that I want to see the most there is the Eiffel Tower. While in Paris, I would love to try new foods and try a different way of living.
