Golf is a popular sport that has been played for hundreds of years throughout the entire world. Because this sport is so widespread, there have been many instructors of the game. Teaching golf requires patience and extensive knowledge of the game. Once instructed on how to play, it is a relaxing sport that exerts many heath benefits, can be played despite age, and yields many vital character traits.
The game of golf can be traced back all the way to the 15th century; however, around the mid 1700’s, the first golf club in Edinburg, Scotland opened up which established the basic rules and regulations of the game. Since this time, rules have always governed the game of golf, and instruction has always been a necessary element in learning the game. Strategy is a main aspect of the game, even today, instructors, scientists, and engineers have scrutinized every aspect of the swing, ball-striking, and mental technique (USGA). When the popularity of the game expanded further than Scotland, universal rules became necessary in keeping the uniformity of the game. In addition to the rules, the game of golf eventually became a game of technique. It is one thing to hit the ball really far, but it is as completely different strategy when chipping and putting. Over time the game of golf has become extremely technical, especially for professionals, which have resulted in an increasing need of proper instruction (Can You Learn).
Teaching is not telling. It is helping someone understand a skill. Teaching is a difficult skill to learn because it requires patience as well as a complete understanding of the skill.
