Since I was a young girl my mother has worked multiple jobs married or not. Everyone has their role in a family. Children have chores and parents work to help provide for their family by working. “His and her marriage” is something that shows the inequality between both gender roles, being in a marriage is something that has been a struggle for a long time. Women always seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to marriage and family. My family life has always been a little different from the lives of my friends, most of my friends had two parents. I didn’t always have a two parent house hold, my mom almost always worked two or more jobs and had three children. So in my family my brothers and I helped out with household chores and …show more content…
Although today I can’t even imagine how hard my life will be without the support of my mother. After reading the chapter I noticed that as a teen I struggle to build the intimacy with family members and friends that I should of. Because of the simple fact that I was determined to be independent without a single idea that I may need to add some intimacy in my life. I came into this chapter amazed by how to little things such as autonomy and intimacy has changed my life without me even knowing it. Intimacy is something that is very hard for many people to understand, because many people believe that it refers to sex but it really doesn’t. It refers to closeness in a preexisting relationship from sharing with a person. When a person is in a relationship whether a friendship, a partnership, or even a family relationship it’s is important to share with a person or people. For example, I share a lot with my best friends when we catch up we just spend time talking about all the juice details of our lives. The ability to have someone that knows your secrets is something that is important in building communication and trust with someone. It creates a bond, this helps show the person or people that the relationship matters. This is something that I have learned over the years, building a relationship isn’t easy but building a line of communication between to people is important and intimacy is the
To Inness, intimacy is the core of privacy. “Intimacy is the sharing of information about one’s actions, beliefs, or emotions which one does not share with all” (Inness 1992). This suggests that to share full intimacy with another person, it requires letting people into their lives. This does not have to be with only someone that you intend on having a loving relationship with. Inness goes on about letting friends into your private life at times can be helpful to someone. Friendships can be just important as relationships to certain people.
The article “Understanding Families” by Linda Garris Christian expresses six characteristics that apply to Family Systems Theory and to the environment provided by early childhood educators.
Trust, an important factor in any relationships, provides a close bond between individuals and helps them confide in each other. Also, trust makes someone feel more comfortable with those around them and makes them feel confident enough to tell them everything that is going wrong with them. Personally, trust to me is critical when it comes to family. Without trust, there is no such thing as a family. Though others may disagree, I believe that trust means someone or people that someone can talk to without feeling as though they need to limit themselves to what they want to talk about. An example of this would be when I wanted to get something of my chest but I knew I could not tell my actually family because I knew there would be judgment and they would tell everybody. So, I decided to confide in two friends of mine because they have been through this situation before and I felt like their advice would help me feel more confident in me and also gave me a reason to trust in
My family growing up was composed of my mother, father, four siblings, and both paternal grandparents. My mother and father were the primary caregivers, and we have a very loving and open communications amongst us. Growing up, my family owned a bakery, we all helped/work in it. If my parent’s had to run errands, we were left to care by my grandparents.
In life, the moment we grow up is the day we start to visualize the future. Questions like, “How will I maintain this job?” “How will I begin a family?” “When will people start to recognize me for my talents?” “Will I ever fulfill my dream?” start to arise. Also, many other questions are being asked all the time, but since we are all different, everyone’s life questions are not the same. Matter fact, the easiest answer to our life questions are the lessons we learned at home and the lessons we were taught as kids. Therefore as kids, we learn all of these unique different lessons from our parents or family in general. Dedicated and responsible parents or members of the family know that children are the future. A family’s job and presence is to provide children with a feeling of belonging and creativity of their identity. Families should be a source of emotional support, comfort, protection, and etc. The relationships we create and mend creates our future self mentally and emotionally. Love is a strong word that cause us to either become strong or weak as an individual. Love comes and goes, but we start to realize that only unconditional love we really need is the love from our family. A family’s love is what causes us to grow into the person we should become. The theme of family is presented in a way to build the character’s charisma and how much support becomes a lifeline.
In 2009, American Broadcast Channel changed the way America viewed families with the premiere of the hit television show Modern Family. The show follows three families, Jay Pritchett’s and his two children, from his first marriage, Mitchell and Claire. Jay is married to a much younger woman, Gloria, who has a child from a previous marriage, named Manny. Mitchell lives with his partner Cameron and they have an adopted Vietnamese daughter, Lily. Claire’s family is the most like the traditional family. She is married to her husband Phil Dunphy and together they have three kids, Haley, Alex, and Luke (Modern Family). The show exposes the families’ struggles to get along and survive with such a different way of living. With that said, their family picture demonstrates very well all of the strong personalities and roles of each family member.
Family, a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. Although family is a concretely defined term, the idea of family varies from person to person. But, what makes a family? For those who are surrounded by loving blood relatives, for those who have never known the one to grant them life, for those who have left their blood behind for a more loving and nurturing environment, what can commonly define a family? Family is something defined by the individual. Family includes those who you have come to love, whether platonically or romantically, those you have suffered with, those you have come to respect, and most importantly those you have cared for and in turn have cared for you. To one that could mean people who
When the word “family” is discussed most people think of mothers, fathers, and other siblings. Some people think of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even cousins and more on the pedigree tree. Without family in people 's lives they would not be the same people that they grew up to be today and in the future. When people hear the word family they think about, the ones who will help them in any way they can whether it 's money, support, advice, or anything to help them succeed in life. Family will forever be the backbone of support. They are the ones who support their children during those life decisions. Family is not always blood related. Finally family is forever, family will never go away.
The Random House College Dictionary Revised Edition, 1975, defines intimacy as: (1) The state of being intimate. (2) A close familiar, and usually affectionate or loving, personal relationship. (3) A detailed knowledge or deep understanding of a place, subject, period of history, etc. (4) An act or expression serving as a token of familiarity, affection, or the like. (5) A sexual familiar act; a sexual liberty and (6) Privacy, especially an atmosphere of privacy suitable to the telling of a secret. The Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary defines intimacy as: (1) the state of being intimate: familiarity and (2) something of a personal or private nature. Frank D. Cox in the textbook, Human Intimacy: Marriage, the Family, and Its Meaning, Tenth Edition, defines intimacy as: Experiencing the essence of one’s self in intense intellectual, physical, and or emotional communion with another human being. Although intimacy can exist between any two people, it is within the family that most of us learn to be intimate, loving, and caring people.
As a child, family was very important to me. My parents made it very clear that the people in your family are the people that are going to be on your side for the rest of your life. My parents were young when they had me so they needed some extra help. Although they did everything in their power to make sure their work schedules were set so that somebody would always be at home to watch me, that just wasn 't always possible. When in doubt, my granny would always come through. I began to build a very strong bond with her being that she was one of my main care takers. Over the years my parents started to figure things out so they no longer needed grannies help. But this is not what I wanted. Instead of
“Most of our lives consist of socializing with others, beginning new relationships, and strengthening old ones. Love is all around us, embodied in three main categories. Each of these is experienced in a different way; each of these is approached in a different way (Lemon2x).” However, all of them share one common quality- they are not planned, unpredicted, and developed overtime. In addition, an intimate relationship is harder to develop. “Intimacy generally refers to the feeling of being in a close personal association and belonging together. It is a familiar and very close affective connection with another as a result of a bond that is formed through knowledge and experience of the other. Genuine intimacy in human relationships requires dialogue, transparency, vulnerability, and reciprocity (Wikipedia). A lot of people think intimacy is all about sex. Intimacy is connecting with someone of the same or different sex on levels that ignite sexual interactions. There are many possible reasons why some people are attracted to each other and form relationships. Some of these reasons are personality, physical looks, things in common, and differences. These three things are what a relationship is based upon, besides trust and other things such as attraction.
I have three siblings along with three nephews. I have a younger sister, older sister, and one older brother. My older sister is the one that had my nephews. We all lived under the same roof until I moved out for college. My mother was more like my father in the house because my father was away working for us, and even though my siblings are her children, it seems that they 're her siblings too. It felt that I was the parent of my nephews and little sister because of the way I had to care for them because everyone else was working. I connect with my immediate family firmly. We always look out for each other because we mean so much to one another. I
Everyone seems to define family differently, however, the significance of family is the same. For you, family means everything. You can always count on your parents and siblings for help and love. Family is very valuable and important to you and should never be taken for granted. No one can deny that family is the foundation of our generation. A family is where we all start our life journey and helps us grow to be successful throughout our lives.
Family structure can greatly impact the day-to-day activities of a family. A family with one parent may have a very different dynamic than one with two parents, or possibly even more parents. It is no surprise that these differences exist and families and that one’s family impacts their way of life. However, does it make a significant difference? Or is it simply a difference in how people react to their situations. That is what I wanted to learn from this assignment.
When I am asked what is my role in my family, I am lost in thought. Firstly, because of a paradoxical relationship between my family which means that my parents only want to do their own things but they still live together, I hold the opinion that I am the protector of my family. Secondly, I have two younger male cousins which are younger twelve-year-old than me. I watch and accompany them when they grow up and I want to be a good example in my family.
