Industrial Revolution
The industrial revolution was a time of many new inventions and ideas during the 1700s and 1800s. Because of the industrial revolution, the machines made working easier and transporting easier. During this time more wealth was brought into the economy. The industrial revolution brought positive and negative effects on society, oppression for the working class, and resulted in Karl Marx creating the idea of communism.

Goods could be transported in icy conditions, as where boats were not (Andrea, 234). Goods were exported every day, and one thousand tons could be exported; locomotives transferred more goods in even less time (Andrea, 235). With all these advances, poverty was also an issue. With the population growth, the wages decreased for working families. Poverty increased in the cities (Andrea, 240). Europe’s population tripled (The Human Record, 240). Small villages became large cities, and this brought the factory workers (Andrea, 241). The laborers suffered the most during the industrial revolution. The workers had not benefitted from the industrial revolution. They were payed very low wages (Andrea, 241). They had work from dawn to dusk (Andrea, 242). Factory owners saw the workers as accessories to their machinery (Andrea, 242). Families were so poor that men, women, and even children worked in the factories. They worked in brutal conditions. Even the children worked long hours and in filthy conditions (Victorian Children, 3).
