Second Industrial Revolution After the Civil War the United States saw its Second Industrial Revolution. This revolution would bring great wealth to some and prosperity to the nation. These times re-shaped the American economy from an agricultural to industry. It took several key thing to fall into place for this to happen, new technologies, the railroad system and the creation of the working class. The Revolution was mainly took place in the northern states but southern states still saw limited success in certain areas. The transformation of the north and south, the differences in industry, social and economic consequences, and immigration all played major factors in shaping the United States into what it has become today. Today we wouldn’t even be able to function if it wasn’t for electricity. Thomas Edison’s invention revolutionized how we do everything. In the Carolinas, James Duke saw great success with machine rolled cigarettes. Duke invested in southern industry and education living a great legacy (lecture 2). The South greatest success can be found in Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama, which became a center of steel and iron manufacturing in the south (Give me Liberty 649). Alabama Iron, in Montgomery was producing as much steel as Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the steel capital of the world (lecture 2). Coca-Cola in Atlanta, 7-UP in St Louis, Pepsi in North Carolina, and finally the greatest of them all Dr Pepper in Waco all saw great success in the Soft Drink industry and are still available today.
