Author King and blogger Dan Shewan agree that a major step to improve writing is to start by reading. Shewan mentions in his blog 16 Ways to Improve Your Writing Skills, that ‘The more you read, the more likely you are to develop an eye for what makes a piece so effective, and which mistakes to avoid’. That statement goes along with what King states about ‘If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or tools) to write’. Both authors are try to make it clear that improving writing skills is going to be difficult if one does not read to know what to do and what not to do. It is important to for all people to improve their writing skills. Once someone improves their writing, they are improving themselves as a person. When someone has improved writing skills, there is a higher chance that they will seem more educated when writing things as simple as an e-mail to anything as big as a college paper or maybe a book of their own someday.
