The mechanism that makes it possible to transfer information is the most significant aspects of language faculty, and has been concerned with much research and studies through the past half century. It has been argued that “The human language faculty is a complex biological adaptation that evolved by natural selection for communication in a knowledge-using, socially interdependent lifestyle.” (Pinker & Bloom, 1990). This is still a controversial view and a lot of studies have been done recently to test this theory, especially to analyze whether adaptation really involved. The aim of this essay is to discuss the evolutionary psychology of the topic of language through the theory developed by Pinker, some evidence will be provided to support this theory from different aspects. Few alternatives and limitations in the past will also be commented and suggested to reinforce the credibility of Pinker’s theory.

The process of evolution of humans is extremely complicated over a long period of time, with the help of improved technology and discoveries nowadays, it is still insufficient to answer all the questions of evolution. Yet, with the continuous development of the knowledge and nonstop edition of theories, the details of language faculty development will become increasingly rigorous and testable. As Pinker’s view, “new genes for language disorders and individual variation in language will be discovered and submitted to tests for a history of selection in the human lineage in the future” (Pinker, 2015).
