The Myers-Briggs personality test is a self-report questionnaire that assesses physiological preferences in how individuals make decisions and view the world around them. Once the assessment is taken the individual is then given a four-letter type based on the response to the questions. The letters that are given are different personality traits based on how individuals act within the workplace as well as the real world. I took this assessment myself and discovered that my personality type was ESFJ. The ESFJ personality type is extravert, sensing, feeling and judging. The assessment provided detail insight on my personality, which was very accurate on how I interact with individuals in my personal life and work life.
After taking the assessment, I was not surprised that I was considered an extravert over an introvert. Extraverts are considered talkative, sociable and out-going. As I was looking at the weaknesses for my personality type, it was very interesting to read some of them. One of the weaknesses stated that the ESFJ may be unable to understand verbal logic and another person’s explanation may be cut off. In meetings within my organization, at times I may cut someone off before they finish their complete thoughts on the subject matter being discussed. Being a very sociable person, I can be more of a talker than a listener which can cause issues within the organization. To become a better employee, I will start observing more at meetings and making sure that others get their viewpoints across fully before speaking. I know that important information can be missed when you talk more then you listen, and this is something that I will work on to better myself.
