Going into Rpw 210 I had pretty low exceptions. Based off my previous Rpw experience I was expecting a boring teacher, topics and assignments which wouldn't teach me anything. But this class surprised me. Not just the teacher but the readings and bringing in or applying to every day made this class enjoyable.
Last year my rhetoric and professional writing class was dreaded. No one took it seriously. If you looked around the room most students were on their phones. The teacher tried but gave up half- way through the semester, making the class more difficult to attend. When it came to readings, we read short stories that had no meaning. Then while reading the short stories, we had separate assignments on third world countries, our social class and family and later the family heritage. No connection between the two. It became uncomfortable to disclose family or social class information to a class in which I knew no one. I was hoping that in the final there would be a connection but there never was. During class we had to submit hand written paragraph summaries of what happened in class. Meaning if you miss class you were missing out on easy points. So when I had to sign up for rpw 210, I was not ready for another semester of a useless class. The first day I walked in just hoping the teacher was an easy grader and it would be quick. You surprised me. As I started reading Thank You for Arguing I was still uneasy. As time went on Tyfa became relevant to life. I learned a new skill every day which I tried to use on my other professors. Using it in really life or discussing in class became helpful. So I would advise continuing Tyfa,in class discussion and more “games” like the Ugli orange. The class always seemed to enjoy debates, I...

...commend reading this next time but the standards are set by someone else. Science is a hard topic for students connect with since most of the time its either you love it or you hate it. The reading journals and discussion board post on either book helped to remember and understand each set of chapters. The division of the chapters was the difficult part since most of the longer chapters were assigned during the week instead of the weekend. The use of technology in the class was great since most students nowadays are well versed in it. Using twitter and online resources to your advantage is something I would keep. Having multiple credit opportunities also helped especially when work piled up and then in result the quality faltered.
The teacher, presentation, and overall enthusiasm helped as well because without it all of the students motivation would have fallen off.
The book goes perfect with the class because it coincides with the lectures we've had over the semester. The only thing about the book that I wasn't crazy about was the repetition that Kozol used. Although it got a little annoying to read at certain parts I feel that it was effective because of the repetition. Overall it was a great book.
This class was far more intense than what I expected but I was able to make it through the semester. I learned a lot from this class that I will carry into the future and use in other classes. All of the revision and feedback I have received during the time in the class helped me in the end. I feel like I am gradually becoming a better writer. I will take everything that I have learned in this class and use it for future reference when writing papers. I overall have enjoyed this class this semester.
provided me with plenty of handouts and helpful tips for us to excel in a Dual Enrollment class.
In conclusion, this class has helped me be able to express my ideas in a clear, concise manner. I am now feel confident conveying my thoughts in ways that people will be able to clearly understand. This class has helped me gain a better understanding of how people communicate and how I can most effectively communicate with others. Furthermore, it has helped me overcome my
When I first signed up for this class, I thought that it would be easy since it was a summer course. This was somewhat the case. The class overall was not hard but there was a lot of assignments to keep up with. When I first started my summer courses I had trouble managing my time and completing my assignments in a reasonable time. As the semester came to an end, I believe that I have grown in terms of time management. I still procrastinate sometimes on little things but not as much as I did in the beginning. I am happy that I learned so many great writing tips so early on in my college career so that it can help me further down the road.
...cle was involved with her class. It makes the learning process fun and exciting for the students. The teachers make all the difference in the world. A student can learn memorize anything that a teacher lectures on. But the information is only stored temporally. If you make it fun and exciting the student not only learns but the memory lasts a life time.
As a first year college student this course has taught me many core aspects to writing and critical thinking. Writing has not been one my strongest points in education, but I feel this course has helped me make strides in writing in many ways. This course has enlightened me on various aspects of writing and has taught me many different ways of writing quality essays. A few things that this course has taught me is how construct an acceptable thesis statement, how to prove my points in body paragraphs, and how to properly cite sources. Although I have learned an immense deal of writing skills within this course there some things I feel I can improve upon, such as, introductions and properly heading papers.
In the course of this semester of writing, I grew more than I ever had in my ability to write well. I remember on the first day of class several other students were talking about how hard this writing professor is. I was a bit worried and even thought about switching to an easy professor for a guarantee A so I can get a 4.0. Now, I am grateful that I chose to decide to work hard for a 4.0 instead. Even though I may not get it, I am still glad I stayed because for once, I learned and became a better writer. I can see that my knowledge of conventions definitely improved from last semester. I really loved the feedback for my assignments, since it allows me to realize what I need to improve on and what I should keep doing. Unlike the previous semester, the writing professor only told us our grade on the very first assignment after two months. There were no feedback on how I could improve either, so I had no idea if I was having trouble with anything. Prior to this course, I always had trouble writing sentences and organizing them in such a way that flows and delivers my idea well. I also rarely outline or plan out how I will write a paper too, and even when I did, it was very vague. Out of the five learning outcomes, I grew the most in rhetoric knowledge and writing process from the reading responses and 4 assignment.
Each year the government passes a budget by a certain deadline to continue existing. The deadline for this year was midnight on September 30, 2013. The budget goes in place beginning on October 1 and ending on September 30 of the next year. This year some Republicans (Tea Partiers) in Congress refused to pass a budget unless Obamacare is delayed. The government shutdown lasted sixteen days, reopening on October 17, 2013 shortly after midnight. Several media outlets have covered the shutdown but it was covered in many different ways particularly due to the types of media: broadcast, print, and internet.
I have noticed that I am using grammatically correct sentences within college essays and within my daily conversations. I had never used APA format, therefore, it has been difficult for me as a writer to overcome the MLA format that was taught to me as a student throughout my childhood. In addition, I think this class has helped me to get rid of the “bad habits” of writing that other professors would let slide by. As a future healthcare professional, I think this class has been very beneficial to my career. As I am working as a respiratory therapist I want to be able to write papers in a professional manner and the information to come naturally without having to worry about simple things like grammar or format to ruin it. I have really enjoyed the TED videos we have watched throughout the semester, they have put a new perspective on the way I view life. The discussion posts have taught me a lot about how research influence every aspect of the hospital including respiratory therapy. Therefore, it is crucial that I do my research and stay up to date on the new research as it is published in the field of my study. I think by doing research it allows a healthcare provider can provide the best possible care to the patient through training, knowledge, and
Writing has never been my strongest suit. While I have always done sufficient in writing and english classes, math and science are subjects that I take to with more ease. Because of this preference I have never loved anything I have written, nor have I felt confident in showing others my assignments. Through AP Language and Composition as a junior in high school, I was introduced to many of the concepts I would later see in English 101, but neglected to understand them to the extent I now do. Learning how to properly analyze a piece of text or a picture for rhetoric would have been a chore in the past, yet through this class I have learned to enjoy putting together the puzzle pieces an author gives. While analysis came easily, and I quickly grew to enjoy it, synthesizing arguments and opposing views was more of a challenge. Consequently, it took many drafts and trial and error to grasp this concept and feel confident in the work I produced, but can proudly say I did so. The work I have had to put into this course has not been wasted, and I have learned so much. I now feel confident in the writing I am able to
This helped so much because the students were able to concentrate and listen when the evaluations were of benefit to them especially if it could count on their grades learnt that presentations are so important because you get to learn so many things as you present from your fellow peers.
So I began this class. When asking myself about taking Technical Writing, I just saw it as the "easy way out." Which can be seen in my earlier work in the class. Now as we come to the close of this semester I see it as a brand new learning experience. This class has taught me about proper writing and how to draft up ideas when I need to convey them more properly. This class taught me to look at my skills and find out my writing weaknesses and strengths. Which at first glance I thought I was pretty good at writing to begin with, but now I feel more confident in my ability to write an essay and other technical documents. With the task we faced in this class I learned more about who I was and how I write, which lead to a well versed writer in me. While in this class I took a lot of time reflecting on work I had done in the past and noticing mistakes or errors I made. This was not only for past papers I had written, but other programming I had
To paraphrase the opening of my midterm portfolio, I came into this class believing that it would just be a review of my AP English classes. By week five, I realized that my expectations were wrong. Within just those five weeks, I learned what a rhetorical situation is, what role it plays in a text, how to identify and analyze its components to understand the argument of a text. I slowly began to uncover how the components of rhetorical situation such as genre, genre convention, and audience all interact to reinforce the argument. With a completed RA and RIP under my belt, I am in a great position to reflect on all the skills that I have learned, improved upon, and struggle with during this quarter.
...them to succeed in the classroom. Although the look of the classroom has changed over the years, one thing still remains: teachers are the number one factor in a student’s educational experience.
