I know it is very obvious, but some people are not studying right. Study early and often. Break your study sessions into shorter periods of time. Also, do not rush through it, go slow and let your brain soak up the facts. Before moving on to another area, make sure you master the material. You do not want to rush through it and miss it on the big test or pop quiz. Make a habit of studying. Know how you study best and learn best. Some people need complete silence to concentrate, and others need a little noise. Find out what works best for you and make sure you stick with that. Study with friends or classmates, but do not turn studying into a social event. A study buddy can be a great help, as long as you can actually get some studying done. Make sure you study before you socialize. Good grades come before socializing. Studying is critical to learning, and studying is also very critical to getting good grades. Make sure you study, study, and study a little bit

Motivation is a force that helps people to achieve what they yearn to be, which helps people conquer obstacles to reach a goal. Students can be physically present in the classroom, but mentally absent. Many things can play a factor in student academic success from the quality of the professors’ lecture, to sufficient and modern facilities or the effective engagement between student and professors. In many researches including the books Lives on the Boundary by Mike Ross and Academically Adrift by Richard Arum and Josipa Roksa it demonstrates factors that students face in the achievement of academic success. Those factors that coincide on student academic success are motivation, life responsibilities, and preparation.
Forgetting is another important problem between the Iranian students. Most of the students complain that they forget words soon after learning them. Why does forgetting take place? In order to answer this question, it is beneficial to present Meaningful Learning Theory. David Ausubel (1968, in Brown 2000) differentiated between meaningful and rote learning. Rote learning involves the mental storage of items having little or no association with existing cognitive structure; it is the process of acquiring material as discrete and relatively isolated entities. Meaningful learning, on the other hand, may be described as a process of relating the new material to relevant entities in cognitive structure.

An important question to address when attempting to identify effective study strategies and their relationship with academic performance is, “What are study skills?” The term “study skills” can be defined as proficiency in identifying, organizing, memorizing, and using information in order to succeed academically (Proctor, Prevatt, Adams, Hurst, & Petscher, 2006). Activities identified as study skills include “time management, setting appropriate goals, selecting an appropriate study environment, employing appropriate note-taking strategies, concentrating, selecting main ideas, self-testing, organization, and managing anxiety,” (Proctor et al., 2006). Students hear study, study, study all the time, but sometimes it’s just not enough. In order to be successful, sometimes, you have to go a further step and change your lazy habits to get ahead. Although, the first couple weeks of school you may find yourself “turning up” a little hard, but you should be focused on the reason of why you came to school. With all the exciting events on and off your campus like football games, and parties to attend, it can be quite difficult to pass it up and stay back to study and write papers because who doesn’t want to go out with their friends. With all the distractions, students need to master their time management, study effectively, and ask for help when it’s really needed.
After twelve years of school, it took me until now to figure out exactly why I had been there all those years. It was not to torture me by making me learn how to spell but to make sure that my classmates and I got the opportunity to make the most of ourselves. Opportunity that would come from learning as much as possible from books and beginning to see that the world focuses on more than just history and English . I owe my success in life and school to teachers who taught me to spell and to be respectful and responsible. Those quick to argue with me say that school's usefulness is shallow: deeper-real-life experiences truly educate a person. School should be seen not only as a place to study, but also as a place to learn about real life. People cannot depend on experience alone for education just as they cannot solely rely on information from school books to prepare them for life. The lessons, whether from a book or not, learned in school transcend the classroom to real life situations.
