In life, the common virtue of existence is lead by your beliefs. However, important aspects of life often revolve around others’ opinions of you. One of the important belief that is frequently forgotten in an individual is self-value. For instance, I grew up overconfident of my capability, but once I entered grade school, my confidence slowly started to plummet. From simple rejections to failing marks, I soon faced my inner self and started to doubt myself, I questioned everything about my choices. I remember the first day of middle school I spent hours the night before deciding on my outfit, crying on the floor simply because I felt nothing looked good on me. I cried so much to the point that when I reflect back, I pity myself. I threw a fit and destroyed my closet that I had to fix the very next day. After struggling with myself, I gave up and decided to go with my first choice, and on that day I learned a very important lesson. I questioned myself on why I would spend hours if at the end I was just going with my first choice, and have to spend hours at the end fixing my closet. I questioned, why did I need the perfect outfit if I was just going to school, not a wedding, a festival, or even a fashion show. Why? This answer is fairly simple, I don’t feel comfortable in my own skin. I remember praying that night every single one of my acne and my scars would evaporate like water, however, my prayers were all in vain. In addition, I learned that if I had a little more self-confidence in myself, then I will probably pick out my outfit in 5 minutes unlike spending hours of valuable time. Therefore, the common lesson I learned that will last me a lifetime, is to do what I feel is right for myself, and don’t dress to impress others simply because it isn’t worth
What is self-harm / self-harm? Self harm happens when you hurt or harm yourself. There are many ways to do so. Some include overdose, cutting yourself,burning yourself, banging your head against a wall or something else hard, punching yourself, sticking things in your body. and swallowing things such as nails or other sharp objects.
Many people’s perceptions of their own skills, strengths, and weaknesses are different, more some than others. Everyone’s personality is a bit different: Some have very high self-esteem, some are very egotistical, some don’t believe in themselves, etc. Most of the time, my self esteem is usually within a delicate balance of “you aren’t as good as you seem” and “you’re doing fine, relax, you’ll turn out just fine.” However, there are a pair of people that will believe in you no matter what you do: your parents. The world we live in today is far from perfect. Hearing about murder and violence is something we have all become, accustom to but does that make it right? Absolutely not. Media has influenced an affected a key value of human beings and that value is integrity. The value of integrity is severely lacking and society needs to reestablish the ability to look beyond race, gender, and sexuality. I have seen on multiple occasions’ individuals jumping to conclusions or judging someone simply off the way they look or dress. This has been an issue I have witnessed throughout my high school career and in my everyday routine; media is a large contribution and something needs to be done.
Erik Erikson composed a theory of psychological development that was composed of eight stages. Erikson’s theory focuses on how personalities evolve throughout life as a result of the interaction between biologically based maturation and the demands of society. According to Erikson, “Each stage of human development presents its characteristic crises. Coping well with each crisis makes an individual better prepared to cope with the next.” (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2013, p. 314) According to Erikson’s eight stages of development, I have only been through six of the eight stages.
Just about everyone has done something that someone else disapproves of. In fact, almost all of us have done something we ourselves have reservations or second thoughts about. Perhaps we’ve stolen something, or told a lie, or gossiped about another person in an especially nasty way. Maybe on occasion we’ve gotten drunk, of high, or driven too fast, or recklessly. Have we ever worn clothes that someone else thought was out of style, offensive, or ugly? Have we belched at the dinner table, or did we ever break pick our nose in public? Maybe we failed to show up for an important class or read a crucial assignment, or permitted our eyes to wonder onto a neighbor’s answers during an exam. Do we like a television program that someone else finds stupid and boring? Didn’t we once date someone our parents and friends didn’t like? Maybe our religious beliefs and practices don’t agree with those of some other members of our society; it could be that they would regard us as too religious or not religious enough. For some people we may be too liberal, too conservative, or too much of a loser. Does someone else consider us too short or tall, too plain of exotic, to thin or heavy, too dark or to light skinned? The number of possible ways that what we believe, or do or are, could be judged negatively by others is infinite.
Having a sense of belonging is a common experience. Belonging means acceptance as a member or part. It is such a simple word for huge concept. A sense of belonging is a human need, just like the need for food and shelter. Feeling that we belong is most important in seeing value in life and in coping with intensely painful emotions. One of the biggest areas of study in the class looks at the self. There are many situations that cause individuals to act differently. One of the biggest and repetitive is how individuals act in a fraternity house. No matter the gender, everyone acts very different in these houses then they would at church. Mead, Goffman and Hochschild look at the self through different lenses but they conclude that there is a lack of self. Everyday people conform to societies many situation which dictates individual’s actions while continuously stripping them of their own self.
During this paper I will explain my values, decision making style, personality type, and goals. Values play a big role in each individual’s daily lives from the day they was a small child to the day they pass away. Although, some people’s values differ does not mean they are less important. A person’s personality will explain how they interact with others, and their strengths and weaknesses. Using deciding styles can help you when making decisions. Also, by setting goals we are more likely to achieve them. Making a goal choosing SMART, we can determine the Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound to develop a reasonable goal.
“Self-awareness is a psychological state in which people are aware of their traits, feelings and behaviour. Alternatively, it can be defined as the realisation of oneself as an individual entity.” (Crisp & Turner, 2010). In other words, self awareness is recognising one’s personality which includes strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs and emotions.
Personal Effectiveness is using all of our potential resources in order to achieve both work and life goals. It is when we use all our personal resources at our disposal-talent, skills, time in order to get what we want in life. In everyday life we put so much effort to get what we want to achieve in life. We spend a large amount of our time and energy. In this world many people are working towards achieving the same goal with different costs. This is because everyone has different personal effectiveness.
A personal quality i have is the ability to improve myself whether it’s my tactics, attitude, point of view, behavior, skills, understanding. I struggle communicating the way I feel. I don’t know how to put it into words all the time. Another great quality I have is I love people I have so much love for everything I just want to help others it makes me feel good. SO back to the fact that I have a hard time describing my thoughts with words, I’m a visual learner. I’m great at communicating feelings and emotions using my body and my artistic abilities. I love studying different things I think that’s one of my biggest strengths as an actor, is that I love love love studying people and the way their minds work. It gets me excited. zI find it so fun improving myself.
Some are raised being built up all the time, and they think they are on top of the world. They will never battle with being scared of what people think, but they will fight their own type of battle. They will have to deal with the word cocky and overconfident being thrown around at them. While others are raised being torn down all the time, and are scared of what everyone thinks. People raised like this will often have some of the most problems with confidence in themselves. They are constantly scared of being judged all the time. Once in a while there are parents who raise their children to be humble and that encourages them to be the happy medium in society. In today’s world, people should strive most for being the person who can say, “I can do it no matter what they think,” but they have to be careful not to say, “I am going to be the best at it no matter who is against me.” Our society we live in today has created many types of confidence. Loving yourself is the key to a happy life. When you love all that you are, unconditionally, life reflects that back to you. When you learn to love yourself, fully, you create a happy, loving environment to flourish in. When we lose sight of what’s most important—loving self—we lose sight of our goals and dreams and being happy and healthy. Ultimately, to live a fulfilling life, first and foremost, requires that you love all that you are and trust that life loves you in return.
Study is necessary to succeed. Study is a good way to develop our mental. Study can increase our experience and knowledge. Study can also train our mind to understand the complexities of the subject chosen and then apply that understanding in practical terms. Through study, we can learn how to discipline ourselves to do something you don’t want to do, which will help us succeed in anything in our life.
Yet, the gauge we use to define these things, or the level of importance they hold in our lives, can be dangerous. Again, what is our value system?
