Importance Of Evidence Based Practice

Evidence based practice is the combination of clinical expertise, patients expectations and values, and best research evidence into the process of clinical decision making for the purpose of patient care and welfare. Clinical expertise refers to the experience, skills and education of the clinicians. Patient expresses his or her own personal values, expectations, preferences and individual concerns. And best research evidence is often found through the clinical based research which has been conducted using proper methodology. (Isenburg and Handler, 2016)

Evidence based practice de-emphasizes instinct, unsystematic clinical experience, and pathophysiologic justification as adequate reason for clinical decision making and burdens the examination

(Jette et al., 2003)

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is the scrupulous and wise utilization of current best evidence human services choices. Best evidence incorporates experimental confirmation from randomized controlled trials; proof from other investigative techniques, for example, illustrative and subjective exploration; and in addition utilization of data from case reports, exploratory standards, and master supposition. (Titler, 2008)

In my opinion, evidence based practice is very essential for the purpose of practice development by promoting research and studies to gather the relevant evidences.

Importance of evidence based practice:

• Evidence based practice is necessary to enhance change in health education.

• It emphasizes the practice relevant research to find out powerful and meaningful evidences.

• It stimulates the closer working relationships between health personnel and researchers.

• Evidence based practice helps the nurses to provide person-centered care which is more effective and dynamic.

• It helps to bring up the best new practice rather than following the existing

(Sackett and Rosenberg, 2016)

Research is one of the important sources that help in making clinical decisions.

Research is a systematic method which is used in other to answer the certain questions or solve problems that leads to the development and expansion of knowledge. Clinical nursing research is designed to determine reliable evidence about issues relating to the nursing profession including education, practice, service, and administration. Due to the importance of evidence based practice in nursing practice development, research has become valuable source in nursing practice. (Polit and Beck, 2016)

Nursing and medical practice is ongoing change and developing process due to impact of evidence based practice.

Example of evidence based practice: “Kangaroo care”

Kangaroo care refers to the holding of neonatal skin to skin and chest to chest by parent. It is now-a-days so common in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). This is a new trend arouse through the trustworthy evidence. In early 1990s, this was rarely followed but later on the fact was accumulated that there is no any negative effect of the care instead it is the life saving phenomenon. The adaptation of this practice proves that the reliable evidence enhances the practice development. (Polit and Beck,
