When going out into the work force there will be different types of managers that will be introduced to employees. Some of the leadership styles will be very liked but will not really be effective depending on what needs to be done. Another style might not be liked by the staff but will get things done for the company in the long run and one of the final styles will just have everyone do the work but the leader will take the credit for the work put into it. Interning at the Employment Center at Caesars Entertainment I work very closely with the Recruiting Manager for the Employment Center and the World Serious of Poker. Working with her I got to see that she has a democratic leadership style. Working with the WSOP I got to work with Rosie and her employees very closely. While observing day to day actives I did notice that her leadership style is democratic. She likes to have everyone in the office involved with decisions. She was the one to make the final the decisions at the end of the day, but she would like to get the input from the other employees to make sure that it was the proper decision for everyone that was there. This leadership style makes everyone feel included in everyday actives. I also noticed that the bond between the employees and manager was a lot stronger that what I had seen in other departments that I have worked out of my internship. Working the WSOP the employees that get hired to work for the department are actually temporary employees, most of the time, do …show more content…
A bad thing about this leadership style is that it can take long to make decisions and if there needs to be a major decision made immediately there is no time to sit there and ask the employees the their
Democratic leadership styles can be persuasive or consultative. Persuasive – this is where a leader has already made a decision, but takes the time to persuade others that it is a good idea. Consultative – this is where a leader consults others about their views before making a decision. The decision will take into account these views. A laissez-faire type of leadership style allows employees to carry out activities freely within broad limits.
Chiefs Petty Officer Academy (CPOA) is an extremely effective tool to help refine leadership and understand one’s self. The CPOA course offers a vast opportunity for self reflection and learning how to communicate with a multitude of different personalities. There were a plethora of topics taught during the 5 week course; however the topics that had the greatest influence and inspiration for me personally were the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI), Disc profile, and ropes course.
The leader trusts his personnel and leaves it free to work by his own program. He supports his team and he is ready to help them at any time. The staff is satisfied because he has the control of the work and the productivity in most cases is high. The style requires from anyone, deep knowledge of the sector.
This style has been defined as ( Abdicates responsibilities avoid making decisions)(Robbins 2001). That would mean leaders are not involved in taking decisions at all and they are available only to provide their employees with materials and answering questions, the subordinates have complete freedom to take decisions and set objectives (Chaudhry and Husnain 2012). In other words, this theory lacks any kind on powerful leadership. Hence, there would be lack of motivation, low levels of performance, and poor work practices(Packard 2009). However, if the employees are already motivated and have full understanding and high level of knowledge regarding the mission at hand, Lassies- Faire model might works fine (Gustainis and Roosevelt 2004) .
It is the nature, vision, and upbringing of the leader which helps them to determine which leadership theory fits them the most. A leader is the one who helps others to accomplish the goals. If there is any kind of intervention in the leadership style then most probably it would fail as the employee would be no more interested to work under the leader. A leader is someone who inspires others, helps them to view a goal and motivates them to achieve the goal. In a workplace, leaders come and go but the important thing is that leader who inspires others will leave a mark for the lifetime. Being a leader is not a difficult job, but leadership faces a jeopardy situation when a leader is incapable to answering the why and how questions. So, one should be very careful while acting as a
However, his leadership styles can have a negative impact on the employees such as uncertain if they are doing the right thing, sometimes employees can be too confident in themselves that they do the job inappropriately and sometimes when the leader trusts them a lot they do not feel pressured to perform their task. They might take too much time for one task as stated in Owen (2006).
...to be a great leader a leader must have a democratic leadership style. Although, there have been cases where autocratic leaders and laissez fair leaders have been successful, this does not mean that these leaders were the best leaders. It just means that they were able to achieve power through the cost of their subordinates. In this cases most of the time the subordinates are not happy with their leader. Even after their success there is no doubt that a democratic leader is the best leaders because this styles leads to a “higher productivity, more contribution from group members as well as higher group morale(Cherry).”A democratic leader, with the five golden rules, is able to guide and inspire others through his example, to change for their benefit. A democratic leader seeks the best for his subordinates and that is the reason why his subordinates will follow him.
Leadership is not defined by position. Leadership is an extraordinary responsibility given only to those willing to exude selflessness, decisiveness, and wisdom. CSM William R. Hambrick, Jr is an accomplished leader that embodies the values, attributes, and competencies that I aspire to convey to my subordinates. The impact that CSM Hambrick has had on my career and leadership philosophy is immeasurable. His far-reaching legacy is one of confidence, sound judgment, and empathy.
Another example of his bad leadership style is that his employees can’t obey him and the sure thing they can’t disagree with him. These two examples made him a leader that his employees will have difficulties to cope with him. Is difficult to work under such conditions. Some people can not be effective if they have to follow such rules in a company.
There are a few different types of well known leadership styles, authoritarian, delegative, and democratic. To assess my leadership style I used two online tests to help me determine my style. I felt the results were accurate and I fall into a democratic style/participative style. If I am leading I prefer to include the group and get their feedback on solving issues. However, I still make the final decision after listening to the thoughts of the group on a particular topic. This is considered to be a positive style of leadership that is inspiring to the group involved. The leaders decision making tends to be more accurate due to the input of other experts. (Cite)
