Nowadays, not only is a person’s intelligence (IQ) important but also his or her emotional intelligence is useful. Emotional intelligence says a great deal about a person’s abilities to be competent and successful in life. It is necessary to know and understand the meaning of emotional intelligence. Wise people tend to be aware of this factor. The purpose of this essay is to discuss the relevancy of emotional intelligence as a determinant of a person’s personal and social competence.
I took the Emotional IQ Test found on the Discovery Health website. My results (89/100) were excellent according to the website’s ranking system. Because I earned a score that was higher than average, I felt relieved and very satisfied. These results showed that I am able to express my feelings in a clear and direct manner. Moreover, the score of 89 revealed that I am both positive and optimistic. Because I can adapt well to changing situations, I am comfortable with myself, as I am able to appreciate my strong points. Knowing my weaknesses, I am also able to motivate myself and complete tasks that require extra attention and effort. Further, I can bounce back from mishaps and survive hardship without complaint. Consequently, I have the ability to develop strong relationships, have better health, and gain personal happiness. I enjoyed taking the test and felt comfortable. Since the test was rather short, I did not feel pressured. Therefore, my testing experience was very positive.

By doing this, a person can track his or her body and cues (Mackin, 2006). Another good technique is to use “self-talk” because what people tell themselves reveals their emotional states, positive or negative (Mackin, 2006). In essence, the best way to improve emotional intelligence is to increase one’s awareness of both personal and social competence.
To conclude, I am grateful to have a high emotional intelligence. Because of this fact, I feel confident in my way of thinking and feeling. Since the factor of emotional intelligence is so important, I will invest much time and energy into strategies, such as journal-keeping and self-talk. As a result, I hope that my emotional intelligence stays high and helps me to deal effectively with others.
