All my life growing up I’ve heard police stories from my grandfather and uncle about good guys catching bad guys. Police work isn’t always so black and white like I thought when I was a kid, Sometimes you have to work with the bad guys to catch the “badder” guys.
The use of confidential informants is a valuable tool to many law enforcement agencies and more importantly for crimes associated with narcotics. Informants have the ability to gather information that would otherwise be unable to gather from law enforcement personnel. However, many of these informants are criminals associated with the crime being investigated

Well of course there is leg work and interviews, but without a police report there is case the criminal cannot be put away with pounds of evidence without the police report being filled out correctly. My criminal investigation professor has said many times that if you cannot write a police report you will not make it as an investigator. Reports are read by other officers, media, judges, etc. If an attorney finds mistakes in a report the same way they are found in college students papers then it would be easy to make the police officer seem stupid. There might be unclear sentence, wordiness, overuse of jargon or abbreviations. There many rules to writing reports because they are so necessary to the job

In July 2003, Sheriff’s Deputy Todd Shanks of Multnomah County Oregon was performing a routine traffic stop on a vehicle driven by William Barrett. During this stop, Shanks arrested Barrett because of an outstanding warrant and then searched the car. A pressure-cooker found in the trunk was believed to be used in the making of methamphetamine. Barrett informed Shanks that the owner of the pressure-cooker was “Gunner Crapser,” and that he could be found at the Econolodge Motel in a room registered to a woman named Summer Twilligear (FindLaw, 2007, Factual and Procedural Background section, para. 2). Deputy Shanks quickly learned that there was an outstanding warrant for a “Gunner Crapser” but to not confuse the wanted man, whose name was not actually “Gunner Crapser,” with someone else using this name.

For years police corruption has been a major problem in American society but where is the line between moral and unethical police corruption, many modern movies address this vary issue. Some films portray how types of police corruption can have a positive influence on society, while others show the dark side of police corruption. Many law enforcement agents join the criminal justice with the basic idea of “justice for all,” however, most of them do not realize that the nice guy doesn’t always win. Even though there are vast amounts of movies which specifically address police corruption we will use three main movies for our argument today, mostly LA Confidential, however, also Training Day.
1. What is the difference between a. and a. Method of inquiry is based on gathering all the facts in a criminal investigation, such as physical evidence, witnesses and records (Osterburg 2010). Methods of inquiry are ways an investigator gathers the information for a particular case they are investigating. In a criminal investigation, the method of inquiry follows five simple words, who, what, when, where, and why, and lastly how. Methods of inquiry can also be very helpful when a crime scene has to be reconstructed.
In our times, the police have become the criminals. Some police are using their power to do bad things, and society has come to fear police. The law enforcement system needs change. The courts have failed the police, and the police have turn to other means of justice. We must stop the corruption in the police force.
Imagine pulling into your driveway and seeing your neighbor’s house surrounded by police, flashing lights, and caution tape with bodies covered in white sheet on the lawn. It was a drive by shooting. Next, a van pulls up and a Criminal Investigator steps out and starts assessing the crime scene. She begins taking photos, marking shell casings, packaging evidence, documenting tire treads on the pavement and inspecting and collecting DNA evidence from the bodies. Criminal Investigators are highly trained college graduates that are a vital part of bringing criminals to justice.

Criminal investigators are professionals in the law enforcement team who try to solve crimes, prevent the occurrence of future crimes, and searching and detaining suspects. The two categories of criminal investigators are private and public criminal investigators. The level of training that these professionals go through is different which leads us to the differences between public and private criminal investigations.
The success of the criminal investigation process in achieving justice can be seen through its efforts to balance the rights of the victim, offender and the community, this is evident in the areas of police powers and discretion.
