The Importance Of Earth On Earth

There is no doubt that today’s society is pushing the limits of Earth. Through oil drilling in the Middle East to the increasing amounts of pollution found in China, there is only a matter of time when the citizens of Earth will begin to feel the effects of reaching our carrying capacity. Carrying capacity is limit or the maximum population size an environment can hold and sustain indefinitely. For example, the movie, Human Population Dynamics discusses the idea that all 6.5 billion people on Earth could live and be sustained in the state of Texas (The Habitable Planet: Human Population Dynamics). Carry capacity includes availability of food sources, living areas, clean water and air, and other required means of survival. I believe that Earth …show more content…

Cities such as New York City, New York, Beijing, China, and Mumbai, India are known as megacities for their large populations (10 million people or more). Having a highly-compact area with such a high population density results in megacities omitting high amounts of emissions. These emissions result from the increased use of cars, airplanes, and creation of electricity. The increase in emissions results in reducing the quality of water and air. Not only does the fact that the worsening quality of air and water impact those who live in these megacities but it also greatly affects our planet as a whole. Although these megacities are booming industrial and business centers, they are doing more harm than good to the environment. Megacities are having such an impact on the environment because they are using much more resources in general. These megacities are needing to produce/consume more food, water, and electricity than others areas around the world. Such an increase in demand is leading to other areas having decreased amount of resources. Also, having megacities with such high demands of the environment is leading to increased pollution in cities. The pollution from cars, airplanes, and industrialization is harming over the 10 million people in each megacity. The long-term effects of having megacities are unknown, but already proving how they can be hazardous to the people living there and those around
