Throughout the entirety of leadership class many different characteristics were discussed. Some of them were more relatable than others, but all could be applied to some aspect of my life. While working with my groups service project we were able to implement these skills, and finally be able to practice them while being a servant leader for the community. When I started this semester volunteering was something very close to my heart, but I lacked the skills to move from volunteer to leader. These characteristics have taught me about the importance of being a servant leader, and one who understands how to correctly work. The characteristic that had the largest impact was originally the one I related to the least. This class helped me grow and understand how to use different skills to help others. Empathy was a characteristic that I experienced during my time at the salvation army. She had just lost her house, and has three children to watch over. As a single mother she was struggling to make ends meet and provided adequate food for her children. She also spoke about how she was unsure how she would provided Christmas presents. Common things we all take for granted she was struggling to access. She was such an inspiring woman to talk with during my time there. Life has thrown its worst at her, but she never once complained.
