Human beings are unique in many ways, having the capability to learn and fine tune various skills and activities. One of the striking features of humans is the degree of creativity and innovation displayed through our thoughts and actions. Since past century, over one million books, literature, music, sculptures, and paintings are released each year. With time passing, not only have human activities evolved, but our definition of art has altered tremendously as well. Generally, the term art is referred to as a skill or mastery. Some say art is the work produced by dexterity and imagination, while others further elaborate saying, it is an application of creativity typically presented in a visual form. Artistic work has existed almost as long as humankind, from early prehistoric art to modern art. While one artist depicted mountains with sharp peeks, the others pictured them with curvy hills. Similarly, no two writers have the same writing style or syntax order. Many people depict art in different ways; it is up to the audience to evaluate the artwork. What we define art today has overseen the inner meaning of an artist’s work. Art is not only the product of dexterity and creativity; it is a symbolic significance of one’s senses, emotion, and intellect. Art is created when an artist psychologically links his work to the audience, may it be through his music, writing, painting, or any other form. Art is music, for the artist writes his thoughts as the lyrics, connecting his emotions to his audience. Through his music, an artist is able to emit and transmit his previous feelings to the listener. As the audience, we are affected by the song and conclude it to be good music. Through rock music, the artist may deliver his frustratio... ... middle of paper ... ...ws his work as a piece of craft rather than art. Therefore, the deeper meaning of art is lost when words such as “skill” or “dexterity” are used. It is important to define art through emotional connection between the artist and his audience to holistically consider art as a meaningful word. Art is to communicate ideas, such as in politically, spiritually, or philosophically, and create a sense of beauty to explore the nature of perception and generate strong emotions. Through literature, music, and other artifacts, artists are able to emotionally connect their work to their audience. When the audience sees a piece of art, they are both emotionally and mentally affected. Art should not be defined merely as a product of skill and creativity for we lose the true purpose of the word, which is to symbolic represent and share one’s senses, emotion, and intelligence.
