A nurse is obligated to exhibit pristine skills in communication, organization, collaboration, ethics and morals (Bedin, Droz-Mendelzweig, Chappuis 2013). Communication is a key element in patient care and nursing as a result of changes in patient care, transfer of units, and discharge of a patient. The amount of accurate communication is useful in obtaining all information necessary for individualized patient care. Collaboration is a key element in patient care and nursing as a result of identifying obstacles and forming multiple opinions and suggestions in the ways to demonstrate and apply appropriate care. The facilities need to analyze the staff and verify that all hours are fair, all tasks are fair, and all nurses have emotional
The majority of our society holds the notion that nurses are no more than trained professionals, working for a doctor, who simply provide medical care for the sick and informed. However, what nursing means to me goes deeper than that belief. Nursing is a profession in which individuals are responsible for not only the care of the sick and infirmed but are also responsible for being a support system and an educator, as well as an advocate for the promotion of optimal care. In today’s society, nurses are an important part of any medical facility’s investment. This paper will address the many different aspects of nursing in which nurse’s act as not only caregivers but also act as, counselors and educators.
Caring is the “central theme and core of nursing caring tapestry” (Otterbein University, 2009, p. 2). When developing caring characteristics as a nurse and caring interventions, this in return helps
According to the American Nurses Association, nursing is defined as “the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations” (American Nurses Association, 2016). Nurses have many jobs and responsibilities and wear many different hats. Nurses can perform at many different levels depending on their scope of practice which is defined by the board of nursing in one’s state of residence. It is important as nurses to understand and follow
...r investigation and then devise a plan for best possible action recognizing the rights of the patient and its benefits followed by the application of the chosen intervention with positive outcome in mind (Wells, 2007). Delivery of excellent and quality of care at constant level (NMC, 2008) must be marked in any responsibilities and duties of the care provider to promote exceptional nursing practice
The American Nurses Association (ANA) developed a foundation for which all nurses are expected to perform their basic duties in order to meet the needs of the society we serve. The ANA “has long been instrumental in the development of three foundational documents for professional nursing; its code of ethics, its scope and standards of practice, ands statement of social policy.” (ANA, 2010, p. 87) The ANA defined nursing as “the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations” and used to create the scope and standards of nursing practice. (ANA, 2010, p. 1) These “outline the steps that nurses must take to meet client healthcare needs.” () The nursing process, for example, is one of the things I use daily. Other examples include communicating and collaborating with my patient, their families, and my peers, and being a lifelong learner. I continually research new diagnoses, medications, and treatments for my patients. As a nurse of ...
Although nursing is universally practiced, not all nurses values and morals are the same. Nurses and nursing students are usually put in situations where they must operate within an ethical structure which is either unfamiliar to their cultural criterion or those of the patients for whom they are taking care of. The most prominent values and morals of nurses are based on human dignity and benevolence. Human dignity is the main component that branches off into other values under caring for health and well-being. Trust, integrity, autonomy, and privacy are one of the many sub-values that fall under human dignity. It is important for the nurses to respect and understand the culture and beliefs of the patient without being judgmental or confrontational. The wellbeing of the patient is priority and so the nurses must focus on gaining the patients trust first by tending to their needs and exhibiting
Caring is the biggest aspect in the nursing field. Aspiring nurses choose to become nurses because they want to care for people in ways that most professions cannot do. Without caring nursing would not be the field it is today. The culture of caring involves intervening programs that help to build caring behaviors among nurses. As nurses become stressed and become down on their life it has shown that caring for oneself before others is key in caring for patients. Lastly, throughout the years many theorists have proven that caring has come from many concepts and ideas that relate directly to ICU nursing.
Working in health care is an important job. People put their trust in us to do our very best to provide them with the absolute best care. Being entrusted with such responsibility requires nurses to conduct themselves both professionally and ethically. Nurses must adhere to the professional values of human dignity, integrity, autonomy, altruism, and social justice. It is these five values that guide us in our practice and as nurses we must promote and emulate these values. They play an important role in the quality of treatment and success of an organization and help us determine right from wrong.
Next, there is person that is to be cared for. A person is someone who needs nursing care. A person is made up of many parts including their mind, spirituality, and their body. The nurse is responsible for caring for all of these parts as considering the whole person is essential to facilitate healing. The nurse may also need to care for the patient’s family and the community. The family being in a healthy emotional state may be what is necessary for the patient’s improvement. Caring for the community can help prevent disease and screen for diseases. Preventing and early detection allows for quicker healing
May people have experienced some form of nursing care in their lives. This is because a nurse is very important in the healthcare world. As a nurse you can work in schools, hospitals, clinics, jails, etc. The demand for nursing is high because a nurse is the functional unit for the delivery of healthcare at the patient level. The true role of the nurse is simple and complicated at the same time. Yes, nurses deliver medicines, check vitals, and gives shots, but their role is much deeper and complex then those tasks. A nurse is also there to help a grieving patient or family after a difficult diagnosis or death. A nurse has the role of caregiver, social worker, friend, and spiritual guide as well. In nursing school a nurse is provided with all the skills necessary to provide appropriate medical care but also how to care for a patient emotionally and spiritually as well. The roles of a nurse are not so cut and dry. Nurses today are well rounded and are open to filling these different roles in he...

Ethics is defined as moral principles that govern a persons or a group’s behavior, ethical principles apply to both personal and professional relationships (Webster, 2015). This provision is strongly connected with nursing as a human science because one has to treat every patient in a unique matter with respect, compassion and empathy to their particular situation they are experiencing. The third provision interrelates with the fundamental nursing responsibilities of optimizing the health by advocating for the patient and protecting the patient. In sixth provision, it explains how nursing is group work that is constantly being evaluated, and improving to provide a safe but quality environment for everyone. (Morrisard, n.d.) Each of code of ethics are essential in providing care for the patient as well as protecting the patient’s safety, rights, and
Ethics asses the values, morals, and principles of nurses. Legal codes or laws are rules established by our government. It’s important that nurses have a clear and comprehensive understanding of ethical and legal codes within their career. The understanding of these codes is essential for nurses to safely practice and to protect their patients. Nurses must abide by these principles or face the consequences of legal action. These principles include autonomy, utilitarianism, confidentiality, and many others. Autonomy is the agreement to respect ones right to determine a course of action, while utilitarianism is what is best for most people as defined in American Nurses Association. In order to give you a
From my point of view, the concept of care or caring is very complex. It includes concern, attention, love, kindness, compassion, protection, trust, support, responsibility. On the one hand, caring for somebody is a very hard work, but on the other hand, caring is a very rewarding experience. As a parent and a wife, I can say that when you care for your loved ones you create the intimate connections that makes you feel happy and whole. As a nursing student, I would say that caring in nursing is even broader concept compared to the personal caring for family.
