With the development of technology, over-consumption and inadequate emissions of waste have a considerable impact on the air, water, forests and wildlife, which leads to inevitable detriment to human life. This essay will give an overview of the sources as well as the negative impacts of air and water pollution on humans in three cities, Bangkok, Dhaka and Mexico, and also discuss the governments’ strategies and the effectiveness to tackle the environment problems.
Bangkok and Mexico were trapped in their air pollution for decades, furthermore, Dhaka suffered from not only air pollution but also water pollution. Subsequently, serious health problems were produced. In Bangkok, owing to the increase of motor vehicles, the continuous emission leads to the sharp decline of air quality which creates negative impacts on the daily life of residents. In Mexico, according to Yip, M and Madl, P(2002), the main source of air pollution are also vehicle exhausts which contain several toxic substances such as ozone, nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide. These chemicals can cause respiratory illnesses and even lung cancer. In Dhaka, from the analysis of World Health Organisation Bangladesh, the water pollution can be another problem because of “the absence of alternative safe water supply solutions”. Arsenic contamination of ground water is mainly caused by the use of hazardous chemicals and radioactive material in industry, and then it results in health risk on humans. As mentioned above, vehicles exhausts are the main sources of air pollution in Bangkok and Mexico, water pollution in Dhaka primarily results from arsenic contamination of ground water. The toxic substances in the air and water affect health and life quality of humans.

In the next decades, pollution is said to become one of the major causes for death in many urban cities. Pollution is
Water pollution is a good medium of transportation and solvent, therefore, this can enable the pollutant substances and toxic contaminants dissolve in the water bodies. Water pollution is a serious global issue today. This happens because of the deaths and diseases occur as well as animals. This issue strongly is led to the worldwide of destruction. The pollution of water is directly affecting the organisms that survive in the aquatic life, such as fish, amphibians and planktons. In some countries, people die each day because of consumption of the polluted water which contains the toxic that is unsuitable for us to drink.
Bangladesh’s outlook for the environment is unwelcoming. Severely degraded is the result of the aquatic and floodplain ecosystems. Due to siltation, the process by which a path or channel is gradually choked or obstructed with silt, has made the wetland ecosystems lose connections with larger water bodies. “Poverty with rapid population growth, the absence of a proper land-use policy, and other forces compel people in Bangladesh to exploit natural resources” (Whyte 53). Natural events that have caused land loss are cyclones and floods while urban sprawl and infrastructure development have reduced land. Water pollution, arsenic concentration in groundwater, air pollution, and other natural disasters are all things that play into the environment of Bangladesh. Water pollution affects them because water availability is highly dependent in the physical geography of the country and monsoon climate. In the long run, the high levels of arsenic can cause serious health problems. These problems include skin ailments, damage to internal organs, skin and lung cancer, and finally, death. Vehicular emissions and industrial emissions are the two sources of air pollution. Air pollution has also been a serious problem causing 500,000 premature deaths and 4 to 5 million new cases of chronic bronchitis every year. Floods are...
Air Pollution in Mexico City Mexico City adds an estimated one million new residents each year, resulting in one million new additions to the city’s already abominable air quality (Collins, 119). Over the span of a generation, Mexico City’s air has gone from being one of the world’s cleanest to one of the world’s most polluted, as well as the most polluted in its country. The average visibility in the city is down from almost 100 km in the 1940s to only 1.5 km today, removing the once beautiful landscape of the surrounding snow-capped volcanoes (Yip, 1). More significantly, however, Mexico City’s air problems have resulted in a notable decrease in the health of its residents, particularly its children. There are a variety of reasons for the decline in air quality, including factory emissions, suspended particles, vehicles, as well as problematic geographic hindrances.
Air pollution has become a significant problem in the US as well as the world over years. It’s the result of variety of sources like industrial, agriculture, mechanical and transportation. Sadly, transportation which releases a great amount of carbon dioxides, nitrogen oxides and other toxicity is proven the leading cause of air pollution. There are several transportation factors that contribute to air pollution in the US.
Air pollution has become a real cause for concern in Thailand, solely on the fact that countries from all over the world have outsourced and built manufacturing plants in Thailand, but more specifically in Bangkok. This has caused Bangkok to become the largest city in Thailand and become Thailand’s major contributor to air pollution. Due to increasing levels of industrial growth it has caused an increase in car and factory smog, wh...
Pollution is a global intimidation to the environment and it becomes an alarm word of today’s world. The swift growth of human populations fuelled by scientific developments in health and agriculture has led to a speedy increase in the environmental pollution. Water has a major impact on all aspects of human life, including but not limited to health, food, energy and the economy. The unprecedented inhabitants’ multiplies and the industrial development during the 20th century has not only increased the conventional solid and liquid waste pollutants to critical levels but also produced a range of previously unknown pollution problems for which the society was unprepared. Of the total 220 million deaths per year it was estimated that the causes of death in 12-20 million are due to water and non-fatal infections which is very high(2). The run- off flow is considered to be the freshwater source on which the people depend. The steady flow of fresh water was estimated at 12.700 to 16.000 km3 year which is 4200 km3 per year. It is used for freshwater irrigation, industrial and domestic purposes, and that is estimated to increase by a number of 4350-5200km3 per year . Alternatively, the available fresh water is only 0.5% of the worlds 1.4 billion km3 water, which is also poorly distributed throughout the world (3). There is a limited ability to increase the supply of drinking water due to the
One of the most dangerous environment issues Southern California is facing today is air pollution. This includes the burning of fossil fuels and natural disasters. Los Angeles is one of the most polluted cities in the world, and the most polluted city in the United States. I will research information about the causes, the effects, and the history of air pollution in the Los Angeles. For my research, I have relied mostly on, the school’s database and library, as well as current events.
Globally, Saudi Arabia is ranked 5th in air pollution (Taha n.p). The world health organization ranks Saudi Arabia’s capital city Riyadh behind New Delhi, Lahore, Ulan and Ahvaz. Ahvaz, is the worst affected by air pollution. A point to record is that most of these countries are within the Middle East and most of them are involved in oil production. In addition, Mexico City, Beijing and Moscow have also been reported to be among the highly polluted cities across the globe. This being the situation, in Saudi Arabia the authorities are trying to counter the air pollution by all means. However, the process has faced a lot challenges. The basic reason why challenges have continued to persist in the process of cleaning the air is because the sources of this pollution are not known with clarity. On March after the release of the World Health Organization report ranking Riyadh 5th in air pollution, Prince Khalid bin Bandar, the Riyadh governor, established a committee that was to look into the causes of this pollution (Taha n.p). In the same regard, the research of this paper looks into the causes of pollution not only in Riyadh, but also in the rest part of Saudi Arabia. This research also looks onto the impacts of the air pollution in Saudi Arabia then checks the measures being put in place by the Arabia government to counter contamination of the atmosphere.
Air pollution is a serious hazard affecting the population of Dhaka.Air pollution of Dhaka is due to:
Water pollution is a serious problem for the whole world. It threatens the health, humans, plants, and animals. As the world became more industrial and smaller due to communications and trade, unplanned and dangerous dumping has contributed to the problem of sea pollution. All water pollution is dangerous to the health of living organisms, but sea and river pollution can be especially harmful to the health of humans and animals. Rivers and seas are used as main sources of clean water by populations all over the world. Another serious result of this pollution is the effect of this pollution on trade in the polluted areas.
In today’s world, air pollution is very important issue to think because it effects to environment and humans health. Environmentally, baleful air pollutants can compose acid rain. It can also compose dangerous ground level ozone. That would destroy trees, crops, animals, and water. This could be relating to humans health because dangerous chemicals such as vinyl chloride in the air that causes cancer, birth defects, and long term injury to the lungs. Also, breathing with these chemicals can even cause death. Air pollution can occur from both natural and human activities. For example, the industrial age, people used fossil fuels to transport. So they were burning lots of fossil fuels that is a major cause of pollution. While burning fossil fuels, there are dangerous pollutants coming out such as carbon dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, hydrocarbons and particulates. Especially, carbon dioxide is very harmful chemical to effect on environment because it contributes acid rain and change the climate that effects to the environment. The emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere occurs while fossil fuel is burning. If there is lots of carbon dioxide released from fossil fuel then acid rain would occur more. Acid rain contributes to the damage of trees and many other forest soils. In addition, acid rain sculptures that is part of human nation’s cultural heritage. Another environmental effect of carbon dioxide on air pollution is climate change. Over the last 100 years, the earth’s surface temperature has risen, according to the National oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Many scientists trust carbon dioxide pollution is the primary culprit because they have evidence that shows ocean water levels have increase because of carb...
Water quality concerns have plagued the country for decades. During monsoonal flooding events, surface waters become contaminated with waterborne diseases and runoff from commercial pesticides. Conversely, groundwater is contaminated by naturally occurring arsenic, leaving the 166,280,712 inhabitants at risk of arsenic poisoning and cancer7. Reports of arsenic poisoning are concentrated in the Ganges Brahmaputra Delta (GBD) region of Bangladesh.
Are you aware of the detrimental impacts that we have had on our environment? Every second, the Earth is being polluted by poisonous gases, waste products and due to human activities, the world’s climate is dramatically changing. In other words, these impacts do not only harm our environment but also our health. It has been scientifically proven that air pollution causes respiratory diseases and cancer, due to the inhalation of all the harmful chemicals. Water pollution can also lead to typhoid, diarrheal diseases and other waterborne disease, due to the intake of bacteria and parasites. Many people have died due to these health-related illnesses. So why are we still living in this awful condition? Air sustains us and water is a basic necessity, so we should do what we can to prevent pollution. In short, we should protect our environment to ensure a healthy life a...
Every other day a new industries are being set up, new vehicles on roads and trees are being cut to make way for new homes. All of them, indirect way lead to increase in CO2 leads to melting of polar ice caps which increase the sea level and pose danger for the people living near coastal areas. Pollution can have an impact in our health not only affects people with impaired respiratory system such as asthmatics, but very healthy adults and children too. Exposure to pollution for 6 to 7 hours, even at relatively low concentrations, reduces lung function and induces respiratory inflammation and, healthy people during periods of moderate
