The internet is making it easier for people to have access to unknown information at a faster rate. Having this information at our fingertips makes it possible to look up information whenever it is needed. Some believe that having this information at our fingertips is causing society to lose its long term memory because it is slowly becoming more dependent on the internet to provide us with information. Technological advancements will continue to occur; it is up to society to not be negatively effected by it or find the positive in these changes. Daniel Wegner describes this issue and how it can affect society in the future.

By the end of the article however, Wegner states his true opinion of the internet. This organization is useful because it keeps a neutral point of view and discusses both sides of the problem. This is important because it keeps a reader who is opposed to his view engaged at first. If Wegner wrote the article from his point of view from the beginning he could have lost several readers that would have stopped reading due to the opposing views. This neutral stance of accepting why both sides of the argument could work makes it possible for all readers to accept the article without looking at it with a closed mind. Discussing both sides of the issue also makes the article more informative. Readers can get information on both sides and then make an informed decision on what they believe. Also, by putting his point of view last, Wegner is able to leave an impression on the reader because his opinion will be the last the reader sees. There can be several parallels to the Wizard and the internet. It can be argued that the internet is like this false hope or sense of security and we need t to be successful. Wegner stated that many people when asked a complex question they were compelled to reach for their phone and look up the answer. Just like the lion thought he needed the wizard to get courage, many people think that they need the internet to answer complex questions. This leads people to become dependent on the internet. This dependence on the internet can be a hindrance because people will stop trying and will just run to the internet even if they could have recalled the answer after spending a little time thinking. This is similar to Dorothy and her red slippers. Throughout the whole movie she had the answer to her problem with her the entire time. She just felt like she needed the Wizard to get back home. Dependence on the internet can also lead to people thinking that they cannot function and answer questions without the internet. This can be a comparison to the Tin Man and the scarecrow. They believed that they needed a heart and a brain to survive and that the wizard would be able to solve that problem for them.
