While that is a majority of the Millennial population, they have different reasons for using the social media platform. According to the American Press Institute, “ Seven in 10 click on and regularly read or watch news stories or headlines posted by other people. They also participate in news in ways that are not entirely possible in more traditional platforms. Six in 10, for instance, say they regularly “like” a posted news story, headline, or link. Nearly half, 42 percent, say they regularly post or share news content to Facebook themselves, and 34 percent say they regularly comment on news stories, headlines, or links,” (How Millennials use and control social media, 2015). For Millennials, Facebook serves as a news source and they interact with the platform to obtain information. Idlewild & Soakzone can utilize this fact by posting news about the Park, information about attractions, weather, events and fun facts about the park. Currently, Idlewild already has a Facebook presence so we won’t have to start from scratch. The volume of posts will stay consistent with one post per day in the off-season November-April and 3-5 posts a day during the season May-October. Idlewild & Soakzone could benefit from developing an Idlewild blog offering Millennial Facebook users with news content in line with how they use Facebook. The main content change is providing Facebook users with

The park has a rich history “Idlewild Park came into existence when William Darlington, owner of the property, gave "the right and privilege to occupy his land for picnic purposes or pleasure grounds" to Judge Thomas Mellon, owner of the Ligonier Valley Railroad. The date was May 1, 1878,” (About Idlewild, n.d.). Idlewild’s modest beginnings were for picnic grounds near the Ligonier Valley Railroad. The appreciation that they receive form others has made them more confident. In particular, there is no “like” or “heart’’ button which means that there is no way for others judge and measure our value. There was also a study that was conducted about how Snapchat may have a correlation with self-esteem. This experiment was conducted by a biological social linguistic psychologist Fem I. Nine at the University of Pennsylvania. Nine found that there were strong connections between the application Snapchat and teens self-esteem. They had over three hundred participants from middle schools, high schools, and colleges. One particular participate went into a deeper response and said, “I really feel like each one is a piece of art…that lasts for 6 seconds.” This statement implies that teens feel good about themselves when they post on Snapchat because they have taken the time to perfect the picture that they are going to
It is a commonly known fact that once someone is on Facebook, they are usually hooked for a good amount of time before they have realized how much time they have been on it! The reason for that occurring is due to the interactiveness of these social media platforms and the doors that they open to new information with every like, share, and post. Facebook is a great example because of the never-ending bank of ideas that it provides from other users for other users, and this trend does not stop as every link opened leads to five more links with potential for new encounters and new experiences. This line of thought is echoed by critic of Sunstein, Henry Jenkins in saying, “New ideas and alternative perspectives are more likely to emerge in the digital environment…” (26). Social media is the epicenter of new ideas in our world today because it does not have any filter, and people are allowed to speak their minds as if everyone is listening, because in fact, everyone could listen. In addition, it is important to note that these new encounters are happening more rapidly than ever thought imaginable. The appeal of interactiveness combined with the accessibility of these outlets at the

With over 100 million users, 400 million snapchats sent daily, and 8,796 snapchats sent per second, Snapchat has been made into a multibillion dollar franchise. Snapchat was not meant to be turned into what it has become today. Snapchat, initially called Picaboo, was launched in Evan Spiegel’s dorm room. Spiegel started Picaboo as a school project at Stanford with his peers Robert Murphy and Reggie Brown. It was created to have the ability to send an image and have that same image permanently deleted. When Picaboo was first released it was not able to attract any users. However, today Snapchat is one of the most downloaded applications in the world.
As social techonoogy advances, it is up to us as as ociety to safegaurd our youth through education on the subject of safe, healthy usage. While a total elimination of the technology is more damaging than helpful, it is wholly more productive simply to guide our children in the correct way, and impart on them a healthy perspective on social mass media. With that, we would be able to enjoy the full benefits of social media, and corresponding platforms as a medium of inter connectivity, information exchange and discovery.
Facebook, is the Social Media platform that has captured this generation. It is Universal. If an account for Facebook is not owned then that individual is defamed. Without Facebook, this individual will be missing out on status updates and pictures from their friends. In the eyes of a millennial this individual would be unsocial. Facebook is popular because of the way it connects users with their friends.
