In this section I will be discussing the advertising model, but more specifically I will be explaining exactly what advertising really is and how it works. Also I will be exploring the different methods used in the advertising industry and investigate how it influences consumers when buying certain items.
At its core advertising is mainly the exchange of information in order to secure a sale of a certain service or product.In addition advertising is not a relatively new concept, it has been around as early as 3000 BC in the simplest forms such as Egyptian fisherman displaying their biggest fish as to entice locals into buying their products. The advertising industry has changed tremendously over the years. Indeed, prior to the 1950’s the most common form of advertising medium was newspapers and there was little in the ways of creatively displayed ads, they were more straightforward written in black and white. However, all of this changed at the arrival of Television and suddenly almost as if over night, TV commercials came to be. As a result, “by effectively bringing the cinema into our living rooms TV revolutionized the creative opportunities open to these ad agencies,” and all of the sudden “getting people to pay attention” was the focus of “everyone’s attention.” However this brings rise to the question: How do you get the public to “pay attention,” and more specifically how does the advertising model even work?

Research shows that humans naturally prefer “attractive people” and unconsciously relate them to “inherent goodness” Advertisement companies are well aware of this fact and take advantage by having attractive people—mostly celebrities, endorse certain products. The reason for this is because “attractive faces instantly produce positive feelings in the viewer,” and people are more inclined to purchase a certain product when they are in a good mood. Interestingly enough, people also often times associate attractiveness with trustworthiness, and are mostly likely to buy something that Leonardo Decaprio told them to buy versus some random person whose missing a tooth.
The advertising model has been tested and perfected for time and time again It allows big companies to truly understand the habits of the general public.
