The immigration system and racism over time have destroyed the American Dream of freedom and liberty. People come to this country in hopes of providing a better life for themselves and their children, but when people are bigoted against these people, it just further shows how unwilling the United States is when it comes to something different, even though the United States is composed of immigrants. People neglect to see this fact because they think it does not apply to them, when in actuality, it is something that is very involved in their lives. When people think of immigrants, they typically think of illegal Mexicans, but there are all sorts of immigrants: Germans, Irish, Scottish, English, Mexican, etc., but people refuse to see this. …show more content…

It is our responsibility to not alienate immigrants. We need to realize that immigrants are people, just like you and me, who are just trying to make a better life for themselves. We should not try and make it so difficult for them to become a member of society. In fact, Immigrants could benefit society exponentially. Why must they fear getting caught without their visa or come here illegally? We should make it easier for immigrants to become a citizen. This helps the United States financially because there is an estimated twelve million illegal immigrants in the country (Bennett). If each immigrant paid taxes, that would boost society’s economy greatly. Immigrants are known for their strong work ethic and determination to achieve the American Dream, so why should we beat them down in the process (Bennett)? We should make it more possible for them. Immigrants can stay on the visa list for years and that just further allows them to stay in the country illegally(Bennett). This allows families to be torn away from each other if some of them are sent back to their home countries (National League of Cities). What could possess someone to do that to someone? Congress should at least try and make a change to this system. These people are future tax payers and aspiring members of society who could one day impact the community greatly (National League of Cities). This increase in consumer consumption boosts business sales, the economy, generates new jobs, and boosts the earnings of all Americans, why would we not want this for us (National League of Cities)?
