A Nation of Immigrants No one can disagree with the fact that the United States of America was built by immigrants. We would not be the great nation that we are today without the hardworking immigrants who came here in hopes of a better life, and made one. That is, essentially, why people immigrate to the United States, and it has been happening for years, so why does it seem to such an issue in recent years? The United States Immigration System has been inefficient for quite some time, and the Department of Homeland Security even deems it “broken” (Executive Actions on Immigration). You see, the biggest problem with immigration is the illegal immigration. I believe most can agree on that, in some way or another. Our immigration system makes …show more content…
It is no wonder that people come here illegally, when people who are model citizens like the thousands who apply for naturalization get denied and are sent back every year. Our broken immigration system is what I believe drives people to come here illegally. I think that we need to improve our immigration system to make it more affordable and a less exhausting process. In 2014, President Barrack Obama issued a series of executive actions regarding immigration reform. Unfortunately, they have been suspended by a federal court and will not be implemented. I find this to be very disappointing, because I feel that our immigration system could have greatly benefited from reform, especially in the way Obama was aiming to do. These initiatives included stricter border patrol, making felons a top priority for deportation rather than families, and to make those who are currently living in the United States undocumented to have to pass a criminal background check and pay taxes in order to temporarily stay in the United States without being deported, and making the naturalization application process simpler and more affordable (Executive Actions on Immigration). This kind of reform is exactly what I believe our country needs in order to …show more content…
He says that they are bad for the workers, and that we should get rid of them all together (Donald Trump on Immigration). Republican nomination candidate Ted Cruz has a more extreme view on immigration, saying that we should not grant citizenship to those who came here illegally. Trump disagrees, and says they should all be deported, but that the best can come back, but they most do so through the correct process (Donald Trump on Immigration). He does not extend this privilege to Muslims, however. Trump says that we need to “temporarily” ban Muslims until we “find out what’s going on” with Muslim immigrants. He goes on to imply that Muslims are to blame for terrorism and even “problems all over the world,” and that by halting Muslim immigration we can “get down to creating a country that’s not going to have the kind of problems that we’ve had,” referring to mass shooting and 9/11 (Donald Trump on Immigration). Trump even went as far as to say he wants to build a wall to keep illegals out. Such intolerance regarding immigration will only make it harder for people to come over legally, which will in turn drive more people to come illegally. On the other end of the spectrum is Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, who believes in comprehensive reform with a pathway to citizenship (Hilary
Illegal immigration has been an ongoing problem in America for many decades. The form of law that currently governs the immigration process is, the Immigration and Naturalization Act, and it has been broken for many years as immigrants still continue to pour into the states illegally. The immigration acts enacted in the past that have been continuously modified leads up to the current policy that falls under the Incrementalism model. However, it is important to note that the current American Immigration system is broken and is in dire need of reform. There are 11 million people living in the dark and too many employers cheating the system by hiring undocumented workers in exchange for offering lesser pay. The current system is hurting the economy and bringing down our country as a whole.
Nowadays, United States is the country that has variety of cultures, races, etc. mixing together by having immigrants in their countries. However, they need to control these group of people also. More people out of country are trying to stay in the U.S. However, this is not an easy process to deal with. There is an immigrant policy that they have to go through. In the past, United States is wide open for people to settle down on this land. There is no process of immigrants. However, in the middle of 1840 to 1880, immigrants started to come in the U.S. such as Irish and Chinese because of demanding of unskilled and cheap labors. In the 1920, automation replaced unskilled labors as a result immigrant’s policy is limited quotas for immigrants
Immigration has always been a major part of America. In fact, without immigration the creation of America would not have been possible. The majority of immigrants came to America for religious freedom and economic opportunities. However, for the most part before the 1870’s most immigrants were Protestants from northern and western Europe. These immigrants often migrated to the United States as families and usually lived on farms with family or friends who had already migrated beforehand. A lot of immigrants came to America with a plan or goal in mind. They often had saved up money for the long immigration overseas, were skilled in a certain trade, or had already been educated at a high level. Sadly, this would not last. Immigration became so prominent in America between 1870 and 1900 that the foreign-born population of the United States had almost doubled. A lot of German and Irish Catholics had immigrated in the 1840’s and 1850’s, and more decided to immigrate after the Civil War. A portion of Americans were biased against Catholics. Thankfully, the Irish spoke English and the German Catholics reputation was improved because of their Protestant countrymen’s good reputation. However, their children often lacked any skill or education, but they were able to blend in quite well with the American society. More and more immigrants would migrate to the United States without any skill or education and on top of that they were usually poor. These immigrants were called “new” immigrants and they came from all over the world including Italy, Greece, Poland, Hungary, and Russia. However, you cannot blame immigrants for migrating to America. Many immigrants faced religious persecution in their home countries which pushed them away, otherwi...
Immigrants have been the start of this great nation. So why argue now that allowing foreign people into America is dangerous? Some people might argue that legal immigration is the cause of overpopulation. This is not true at all because immigrants make merely half of America's population (mruthydotcom). Out of them about 40% of them are illegal immigrants making the U.S border patrol responsible for them (world overpopulation). Another argument that might be brought up is that immigration causes environmental damage. This cannot be proven but we can prove that it is the American citizens themselves that cause this by their expensive lifestyle. Americans consume more per capita than the rest of the world (world overpopulation). Every one in United States has resources like water, electricity, and arable land for granted and we don?t even realize what we can do with out the resources. If you compare them to immigrants who migrated from other countries you see that immigrants have more value for these resources. If you consider the environment they came from, they are more likely to preserve the resources available to them.
Illegal immigration has become a controversial topic in politics within the US. Some believe that undocumented immigrants are vital to the U.S. economy because they take the jobs Americans do not want. Others however, have the opinion that undocumented immigrants should be punished for doing things illegally, arguing that undocumented immigrants are taking the jobs of the American people and taking abusing it by not paying taxes. Although there are speculations that support the claim that immigrants should be punished, there are several counterarguments that state why they should be allowed to stay. Undocumented immigrants are an important factor to the development of the United States of America, immigrants have supplied a widespread example
Immigration is the greatest part of American history. In the beginning, Immigrants brought a vast variety of cultures and beliefs and turned America in to the beauty it is today. Immigrants are still doing this. However, the issue with immigration can be it 's illegal status. Many undocumented immigrants are entering this country causing questions among the American citizens. Rather than asking if this is right or wrong, a solution can be found. Illegal immigrants come here for a purpose and can be helped with this purpose. Most come fleeing persecution, although some come here for more demented reasons. Those, illegal immigrants will be done away with. However, Those immigrants who come here for pure reasons need to be taken Care of in proper
Immigration has been a problem for so many years. This issue began in the 19th century and yet is still a major problem in the U.S. Illegal immigrants don't have many rights living in the U.S. They have a hard life because they don't have the same opportunities as a u.s citizen has. Many of these people get treated unfairly simply because of the fact that they are illegal. There is cases where they have been treated aggressively by the authority. Everyone needs equality no matter where they are from. Most of these immigrants are latinos that come from central america. People from the united states are allowed to go and have a nice vacation in these places but yet those there have to cross a border and put their life at risk just to have a better life. Why do these people have to risk their lives in look for something better. The united states promises equality and this is what attracts others and its sad that they can’t come in legally without having to risk their lives. The ones that are here are working hard and most of them do no harm. Deportation should not be used on illegal immigrants.
When people first stepped foot on American soil as pilgrims, and eventually established a great nation, it was known as the land of the free. Now, when you look at America, it is considered to be a nation of immigrants. Today, in 2014, we have Americans that are mad with immigrants trying to get into this country, as they are taking our jobs away from us. On the other hand, you have those Americans who yearn for their far off families and friends to come to America from other countries to pursue a better life and utilize the opportunities America offers which their current locations cannot. Why should we let these people into the country without forcing them to first go through all the proper legal actions? It’s great that
The question we bring before you is one that has caused controversy, anger, fear, and even prejudice around every corner of America. One that the United States government has asked themselves again and again with no real answer, should immigrants be allowed into our country freely? The United States have dealt with illegal immigrants ever since this country was founded in 1776. This country was built on immigrants. And yet, the US government still will not allow immigrants into America. They keep asking themselves, should we, should we, and should we? Our answer is yes, they should, pending, however, a background check, blood test, and be required to take ESL classes, because there are certain stipulations that are needed. If they have a
Immigration is one of the most common disputes in the United States, let’s define what immigration stands for. Immigration is the act of coming to a foreign country to live, the act of leaving one 's country to settle in another is called emigration. Immigrants who leave their country because of persecution, war, or disasters such as famines or epidemics are known as refugees or displaced persons.
There are currently 11.7 million immigrants living in the U.S. The United States is now again being named the land of immigrants. The new century has been introduced to the illegal immigrant. They are desperate to get into the American culture and are forced to disobey the laws of government to assimilate themselves in America. People come over because they have family, jobs or want a better life. This may cause some problems for Americans. Certain Americans believe immigration will cause the economy to drop, drop to wages, and job loss due to cheap labor, etc. But no one has thought of a solution for immigration that will work effectively.
Immigrants have always been an important part of United States’ population. Each year, there are hundreds of thousands of immigrants, from all around the world, including legal and illegal, come into the United States for job opportunities, new life, or the American Dream. “Immigrants have contributed significantly to the development of the United States. During the Lincoln administration, immigrants were actually encouraged to come to America, as they were considered valuable to the development of the country.” (Soylu & Buchanan, 2013). They believe that the US will give them more freedom, protection, and opportunities, which sometimes it becomes the major issues for immigrants. That’s why “the U.S. population is becoming more racially and
With the recent Paris attacks and rumors of foreboding ISIS attacks, the topic of immigration comes up quite often in conversations. Topics such as how the immigrants should be dealt with, what exactly are the benefits and/or detriments of immigration, Donald Trump’s immigration plan, et cetera are usually discussed. With immigration gradually becoming a trending issue, various people have expressed their thoughts through means like social media and news sites. Joining this movement, this will be another text on the topic of immigration. The benefits of immigration will be presented, false information will be proven wrong, and why some people oppose immigration will be explained and discussed. Immigration should be widely accepted rather than
While immigration for our country is good the ability to become a legal citizen has become insanely hard therefore leading immigrants to illegally cross our border, which negatively impacts our country.
What changes are there to make to this country’s flawed immigration policy to fix it? Immigration control is a growing problem in the United States. Illegal immigrants are coming into this country and taking advantage of Americans’ jobs without becoming a citizen first. The U.S. needs to reinforce its border security and implement a new guest worker program. If the government does not do this America could become overpopulated and the amount of jobs would decrease even more. On the other hand, telling the immigrants to leave, instead of trying to work with them, could make America seem hateful and unwelcoming to new people entering the country. The government does not want to come off as unwelcoming so that they can keep up their reputation around the world. The current laws and policies regarding the immigration policy are extremely flawed and need to be changed.
