Did you know that there is an estamated 3.1 million american children with at least one parent who is illigally in the united states? Illegal immigration has always been a problem in the U.S dating all the way back to 1875. In 1882 president Chester A. Aurthor was the first president to bann all chinese workers. Soon after, the criminals and the mentally ill were refused from theU.S. Immigration wasn't always a problem before this. In 1892 the first portal oft immigration opened up in Ellis Island, New York. This was the premier station for immigration. Here new arrivals had to show identity and were asked a series of questions. After all this the immigrants were scanned for physical ailments and they had to have a friend or family vouch for them. When the operation ended in 1954 Ellis Island had prosessed over 12 million immigrants. In 1921 a quota law passed to reduce immigration to 357,000 people a year and to limit the number of immigrants of any one country. In 1924 a new quota law passed to reduce immigration to 160,000 a year. In 1929 the reduction of immigrants dropped to only 157,000 people.( history of illegal immigration in u.s)
The big controvercy in the history of the United states is mexican immigration. Mexican immigration has become an outrage in some states. Immigrants are wanted to work in agricultural places because they are cheap and don't need to be paid as much as americans. Mexican immigration was huge untill the year 1929 during the Great Depression. Nearly 500,000 to 1,000,000 immigrants left the U.S because of the stock market crash and the limited employment but mostly because of deportation and the threat of being deported. Things changed after that ended. Over the next two decades nearly 4.8...

Throughout The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne attempted to expose the varying ways in which different people deal with lingering guilt from sins they have perpetrated. The contrasting characters of Hester Prynne and Arthur Dimmesdale ideally exemplified the differences in thought and behavior people have for guilt. Although they were both guilty of committing the same crime, these two individuals differed in that one punished themselves with physical and mental torture and the other chose to continue on with their life, devoting it to those less fortunate than they.
Immigration can best be split up into distinct eras with regard to the immigration policies at the time. Immigration laws and policies are the most influential factor because they are driving who is allowed into the country and also influencing public opinion on immigrants. Immigration can be split into 5 distinct times periods, the tittles used for each of the periods in the essay are borrowed from Michael LeMay. Despite very distinct characteristics of each period of immigration, there are many trends that carry over and can be found in each of the time periods.
The Scarlet Letter is a novel about a Puritan woman who has committed adultery and must pay for her sin by wearing a scarlet “A'; on her bosom. The woman, Hester Prynne, must struggle through everyday life with the guilt of her sin. The novel is also about the suffering that is endured by not admitting to one’s wrongs. Reverend Mister Dimmesdale learns that secrecy only makes the guilt increase. Nathaniel Hawthorne is trying to display how guilt is the everlasting payment for sinful actions. The theme of guilt as reparation for sin in The Scarlet Letter is revealed through Nathaniel Hawthorne’s use of northeastern, colonial settings, various conflicts, and characters that must live with guilt for the sins they have committed.
Gang involvement has been quite higher than past years. The 2008 National Youth Gang Survey estimates that about 32.4 percent of all cities, suburban areas, towns, and rural counties had a gang problem (Egley et al., 2010). This represented a 15 percent increase from the year 2002. The total number of gangs has also increased by 28 percent and total gang members have increased by 6 percent (Egley et al., 2010). This shows how relevant gang related activity is in today’s society. More locations are beginning to experience gang activity for the first time. Gang crime has also been on the rise in the past...
First issue that I would like to address is a Gang-related issue. Gang has been an ongoing problem in the U.S since the early 1920’s. The characteristics of the modern gang today are nothing like the pasts and it is very important for our criminal justice system to know the differences and characteristics of the gangs. According to (Bartollas & Miller, 2011), Jeffrey Fagan has identified four major types and characteristics of modern gangs; “Type 1 gangs were involved in a few delinquent activities and only alcohol and marijuana use. These gangs had low involvement in drug sales and appeared to be social gangs. Type 2 gangs were heavily involved in several kinds of drug sales, primarily to support their own drug habits. They were also heavily involved in vandalism. Type 3 gangs had the highest levels of member participation, including extensive involvement in both serious and non-serious offenses. Another feature of this type was less involvement in both dr...

Nathaniel Hawthorne brings to The Scarlet Letter a notion of sin and guilt that seems to stem from his experience and knowledge of Puritan theology and religious practice. In "The Custom House" Hawthorne communicates his apprehension for the persecutory impulses of his ancestors who "have mingled their earthly substance with the soil, until no small portion of it must necessarily be akin to the moral frame wherewith, for a little while, I walk the streets" (1309). It is evident that his attempt to distance himself from those figures of his past suggests that he criticizes the cold and inflexible Calvinistic theology of the Puritans, which was cruelly carried out by his ancestors. And although he sees their actions with contempt, he seem to carry psychological guilt for the "persecuting spirit" that transpired for more than one generation: "At all events, I, the present writer, as their representative, hereby take shame upon myself for their sakes, and pray that any curse incurred by them -as I have heard...may be now and henceforth removed" (1310).
The United States experienced major waves of immigration during the colonial era, the first part of the 19th century and from the 1880s to 1920. Many people immigrated to America for

Many Mexicans that were seeking work found jobs in farming, mining, and railroad construction work this help. in their pursuit of financial prosperity. But did Mexican immigration affect the United States? States in a positive or negative way? While Mexican migrant workers did have a major impact on America's agricultural and railroad system, Americans were not thrilled at the idea of having foreign immigrants migrate to their country and take away jobs.
Deportation is something that affects every single immigrant, whether legal or illegal. It is the process of moving from one country to another. Either an immigrant goes back to the country they were born in or they deport to a new country. One of the main issues that is occurring right now in politics is immigration regarding deportation. Part of the government think that immigrants need to leave. While another part says that immigrants should stay because they benefit the country. Thinking that immigrants do nothing for the country is just simply not the case. Immigrants should not be deported because, they have made a living in the U.S., they help boost the economy, and they have terrible situations happening in their home countries.
Immigration has been a problem for so many years. This issue began in the 19th century and yet is still a major problem in the U.S. Illegal immigrants don't have many rights living in the U.S. They have a hard life because they don't have the same opportunities as a u.s citizen has. Many of these people get treated unfairly simply because of the fact that they are illegal. There is cases where they have been treated aggressively by the authority. Everyone needs equality no matter where they are from. Most of these immigrants are latinos that come from central america. People from the united states are allowed to go and have a nice vacation in these places but yet those there have to cross a border and put their life at risk just to have a better life. Why do these people have to risk their lives in look for something better. The united states promises equality and this is what attracts others and its sad that they can’t come in legally without having to risk their lives. The ones that are here are working hard and most of them do no harm. Deportation should not be used on illegal immigrants.

After reading The Scarlet Letter, one might ponder: What certain concepts did Nathaniel Hawthorne use to convey his beliefs? One of the concepts Hawthorne intentionally emphasized was sensibility. The dictionary defines sensibility as “peculiar or excessive susceptibility to pleasurable or painful impression.” These pleasurable or painful impressions are shown when characters use their five senses. Touch, sight, and sound seem to be the most effective senses used. One of Hawthorne’s underlying themes was that there are consequences for sin. Throughout the novel susceptibility played a role in causing and punishing sin.
During the last 10-15 years of the Progressive Era, more than 15 million immigrants arrived in the United States— a number equal to the total number of immigrants that arrived in the previous 40 years. In 1910, three-fourths of New York City's population was made up of either immigrants or first generation Americans. Unlike earlier immigrants, the majority of the newcomers during this time came from non-English speaking European countries. Immigrants mostly traveled in from...
