Ice Cream
Who does not love a scoop of indulgent ice cream? However, does anyone really know how or why people came to like, or more importantly, eat ice cream to this day? Ice cream has been around since the 13th century, maybe even before then, but the actual discovery or creation of ice cream still has yet to be answered. Since its creation, it has made its way all around the globe and has been altered by many cultures to fit their specific qualifications. With different lifestyles and desires, ice cream not only can be altered in flavor, but also has been changed to give many nutritional benefits for those of certain qualities and needs.
To fully understand, people want to know more or less as to how and why ice cream came to be. For centuries, iced desserts were a luxury. The Chinese are generally credited for creating the first ice creams, possibly as early as 3000 BC. Marco Polo is popularly cited for introducing these tasty concoctions to Italy. The ice creams we enjoy today are said to have been invented in Italy during the 17th century. Why we call it “ice cream” is a good question and that is due to the actual process of making ice cream, referring to the chilling of sweetened cream by putting it on ice until solid.
Since its creation, ice cream has changed throughout time due to many cultures and their different styles of cooking and lifestyles. With its specific process, cultures have found many different ways to make ice cream; many have included churning, “ice bag” method, also leading to the creation of the ice cream machine. Along with diffe...

...y knew about ice cream. Probably only an increasingly shrinking number of people would have known that ice cream actually originated from China and then made its way to Europe in the 13th Century. From that point on, ice cream became a more astonishing frozen treat that had endless possibilities that many different cultures placed their personal spin on. If it had not been for its unique texture and flavors, we would have never been introduced to all these newly adapted flavors and styles of ice cream, well known as gelato, semifreddo, French-Style ice cream, etc. That being said, practically 8 out of 10 people would have been shocked to find out that these ice cream treats actually have nutritional benefits, many pertaining mainly to women. Quite interesting factoids about ice cream that might make someone look at it differently rather than just an indulgent treat.
