Monet became affiliated with numerous artists throughout his lifetime. According to World Cultural Leaders of the Twentieth and Twenty-first Centuries, the landscape painter Eugene Louis Boudin introduced Monet into plein air (open-air) painting. He later began his study in the studio of Charles-Emile Jacque. He worked at the art school called Académie Suisse, where he met Camille Pissarro. Monet met and was further influenced by Johan Barthold Jong-kind, a Dutch landscape artist. While resuming his studies, Monet also became affiliated with other famous painters such as Charles Gleyre, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Gustave Courbet, Frederic Bazille, Eduoard Manet, and Alfred Sisley – the artists who “formed the core of Impressionists. They were, for a time, virtually his only sources of support.” (Bass, 684)

...y. Mouth at the Seine was one out of the two artworks that debuted in the prominent Salon de Paris, and thus, earned him an admission to the academy. If there were any “better investment” to top this significant painting with profound history it should be Monet’s Impression, Sunrise, 1872 due to the reason that the painting is much celebrated as the quintessential icon of the Impressionist movement. Thus, it definitely would serve as a better investment to have the work that starts it all in the collection. I would not mind owning the Mouth at the Seine. As I have stated earlier of reasons why I chose to discuss this artwork over hundred other artworks shown at Norton Simon. Mouth at the Seine is a stunning landscape painting depicting peacefulness at its best. Along with the history of the painting, as the viewer of the present time, it is nothing but awe-inspiring.
