I really like Linh Do she had a unique way of getting her point across and she didn’t try to elaborate on social norms as like she said its unique for all of us and it hit home about what she said about the fork in the road because I had to make the same decision and my parents didn’t pressure me to do any of the above when I graduated. I got told that I should start making a decision about my future but I wasn’t given the ultimatum of go to college or get out of the house. I was glad that these were not thrust upon me and having the freedom to choose was one that I think made me a better person and gave me the chance to choose my path and make my own mistakes which I think were important in me becoming the person that I am today. I didn’t change a million lightbulbs but I think that I helped a little bit by shining my light on a few other people. I love the analogy by Jon Mann where he said as individuals we are going to need a bigger boat it strikes to the heart of social change as we don’t need large groups to implement change on the social front we need small likeminded and motivated people to take charge and take little bites out of it. Thelma Golden had an artist as an influence that I wrote a paper on his name was Jean Michel Basquiat and his art had a very real feeling to me and his art was also about expression of black struggle and wealth vs poverty as well as integration or segregation which really opened my eyes to these social problems it’s amazing to see what the artist sees when you are looking at their work he was a great artist that was taken long before his time. I think that artists can be a catalyst for change as it has done me a great deal of good taking the art course this semester and coupling that with a diversity course has really taught me to see people in a different light and look at what artists are doing to do their part and this can be a change situation as the way people express themselves can have great effect on our future by making us look at the situation from another angle and see the struggles and triumphs that these artist portray. The idea that art can be a service to people- most importantly a service to poor and disenfranchised people is one that may be disputed by some. However, Elizabeth Catlett and other artists at the taller de Graffica Popular have proved that art could be made to service the poor. Catlett in particular is someone who has always used her art to advocate for the poor and fight injustices. While her activism and political views were very impactful, they were also very controversial. Catlett`s art and activism influenced African American and Latin American art by changing the narratives of Black and Brown working class women. In their books titled Gumbo Ya Ya, The Art of Elizabeth Catlett, African American Art: The Long Struggle, and Elizabeth Catlett: Works on Paper authors Leslie King-Hammond, Samella S. Rhys Southan’s essay “Is Art a Waste of Time?” is about art and if it can really help people who are suffering or is it just better to hand over your money. In Yo-Yo Ma’s essay “necessary Edges: Arts, Empathy, and Education” he focuses more on art being used as educational purposes to essentially create more innovative/empathetic people. Instead of focusing so much on STEM, the author states that we should incorporate art too. Although some people might say art does not play a role in making the world a better place. I believe it can by bringing awareness to different social issues. Also, if we incorporate art at a young age it can teach kids to be open minded and happier people.
The book by Naomi Klein “This Changes Everything” is astonishing as it enlightens the readers about the society and the confrontations of the 21st century and its challenges. The author of the book emphasis’s on the activism in a remarkable way and reports of unlawful activities in the co-operate world (10). The author further elaborates on the issues of misuse of power by co-operate and underworld brought about by the western- style capitalism tied by the government which tries to cap on profitability. Many governments tend to believe that co-operate world tend to prioritize their profits in abnormal way and immerse wealth while protecting their interest.

Art is a form of expression. It can be created in many ways, and it can be destroyed in many ways. Art plays a very important in getting messages across. Art can be seen by hundreds and thousands of people. In the Chicano movement, art was everywhere. Art shows a sense of pride and honor. The artists that were involved in the Chicano movement really executed the message they wanted to tell. It will tell the story when people wanted change, they wanted to see a difference in the community they lived in so the future can have a chance that maybe they didn’t.
Immigration is something that has been going on for decades. People immigrating to the United States are coming with the intentions of working for a better future. These people can come from Africa, Mexico, Europe, Afghanistan, Colombia, and many other countries all over the world. Instead of kicking these immigrants out of our country, we should give them the chance to prove themselves to the Americans that they are here to do better in life. Not by any means should we let just anyone come, but those who come looking for a better life and are willing to follow the rules should be given a chance.

What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
People often times single me out for being a christian. They just love asking me about touchy subjects to see my response. And this is because, unfortunately, there are so many christians who have this idea that the whole world needs to see things the same way they do. You see so much hate coming out of a religion that claims to preach peace and love. Christians see it as protecting the bible but it just comes across as ignorant. I am not saying I don’t share in the opinions of many christians, but more than anything I am saying that christians need to learn that not everyone in the world is going to see it the same way they will. When it comes to sin, same sex marriage, and living a holy life there are more than one opinion on what is right. So, you can’t justify all of the hate-acts in the name of your religion. Instead use all that energy you waste on hate to love and help those around you, despite whether you think they are “right or wrong”. I believe that that’s what God is more concerned about.
Socialism is a social and economic system where the means of productions are shared indivisibly throughout the community or enterprise rather than in the names of a few individuals. Or more simply put Socialists believe that the Chief Executives of a corporation are not the ones who deserve the big pay check. They believe that the working men and women deserve more money because they are they ones out in the field doing the work. The main goal of socialism is to more evenly distribute the wealth. They care more about having more people living comfortably than just a few individuals getting wealthy. Socialist ideas in todays politics are what they believe will make it easier for Americans to live in America.
Illegal immigration is getting into a foreign country without the required authentication or living beyond the period speculated within the authentication document. The world as a whole is facing a challenge on how to handle the cases of immigration. The latest development in immigration cases is what is currently happening in the Mediterranean Sea where Africans are migrating into Europe illegally. This paper will, however, not look into the case in Europe but rather what is happening in America at the moment. The paper will analyze immigration in America, why people immigrate to America and how the challenge can be mitigated without causing a lot of harm to the society. This paper will, therefore, take a keen interest what is happening on the America-Mexico border.
Shakespeare wrote, “To thine own self be true.” The beginning of Social Change encompasses the beliefs, qualities, and values of individuals. Change is inevitable whether virtuous or corrupt. Consequently, in society virtuous and corrupt change is present. Thus, individuals must be conscious of self in order to contribute effectively to a group. In addition, surety in one’s philosophies, abilities, standards enables the individual to establish sound opinions based on these defined attributes. Nevertheless, individuals with substantial flaws in their character poses a threat to the survival of self, a group, and a community. In other words, the individual becomes an endangered species; as well as, an endangerment to the survival of a group or community. Educators have the stage to assist in promoting positive social change. Therefore, I work to influence social change through educating the minds of our youths and mentoring new teachers.
In relation to social transformation I have gathered materials that focusses on programs provided for ‘refugees’ living in New Zealand. The purpose of my findings are based on the societies support for ‘refugees’ in terms of human security and directions of life before settling in their new destination. There are stories about ‘refugees’ that need to be shared and stories that need to be forgotten, because it can produce controversy within the society or the universe. But where can these ‘refugees’ go if the place they call home is unsafe or too risky for the lives of their families and for themselves. It’s hard enough to migrate into a new country, but it is devastating for refugees who have experienced the loss of homes and loved ones.
Globalization’s history is extremely diversified and began during the beginning of civilization. Now we live in a world that is constantly evolving, demanding people to use resources in locations that are very difficult to obtain certain resources. This could make it completely impossible to operate in these specific parts of the world. However, globalization allows people across the world to acquire much needed resources. Globalization creates the opportunity for businesses to take advantage and exploit the ability to take part of their business to a different country. Nevertheless, globalization is part of today’s society and will be involved in virtually all situations.
