My topic has become a big part in the United States today. The gay rights topic has made many head-linning news stories in the past few years. The bullying and suicides in the Anoka, Minnesota school district has made an impact on so many peoples lives and made them think about their decisions. The Anoka-Hennepin school district serves the areas of Anoka, Champlin, Coon Rapids, and parts of Andover, Blaine, Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Dayton, Fridley, Ham Lake, Nowthen, Oak Grove and Ramsey. A story that really stood out to me was the story of Justin Aaberg. He was just going to start school at Anoka High School when his mother asked "So are you sure you are gay?" Justin first replied with a soft voice "I'm pretty sure I'm gay," but then quickly corrected himself and answered abruptly "I'm positive I'm gay." Justin was ready to start new especially after ending his middle school years the way he did. Justin came out to a few friends at the end of his eighth grade year but that's when everything started going downhill. At the beginning of ninth grade year when justin thought t...
The Writing Situation: consist of four elements. Purpose: research for ways to reduce the amount of people who are homeless, Audience: everyday citizens and government officials, Subject: the homeless in America, and Writer: I have spent 30 years traveling the US and have seen people living in cars, tents, or even in a cardboard box. My wife started making Manna bags for the homeless here in Lafayette, LA. She works downtown and talks too many of the homeless in that area. That is what inspired us to make a difference. We both distribute Manna bags when we travel. The writing situation can improve my rhetoric skills to improve my use of language in the writing.
I choose head start as my topic, I chose this because I think that head start is something that can really benefit the children and how you are starting them in a positive learning experience that can affect the student throughout their life. I also chose this because when I was in high school I went over to the head start and would help volunteer and it was incredible to see how much the students knew and how fast they would pick up new things.
I chose the topic of transgenderism. Transgender is when an individual tries to switch genders. Transgender comes from the Latin words trans, meaning “across.” Transgender literally means “across gender.” Many trans-individuals decided later on in their lives that they want to switch genders, and other people argue that they were born the wrong gender. Trans-people experience many difficulties throughout their lives. Switching genders makes their lives more challenging, because of many reasons. Their lives are more challenging because of their religion, whether or not they are accepted. The military is very strict, and will not accept trans individuals whatsoever. Insurance companies sometimes will not accept them as well. Trans people are not always accepted by certain occupations. Growing up in schools, trans people are all treated differently regarding to which bathroom/locker room to use. There is a huge debate whether or not trans students are even allowed to participate on sports teams, and if they are, which team to be on. Other obstacles such as birth certificates, passports, and driver’s licenses are all major issues as well. Trans people have to decide if they are willing to come forward, and say ‘This is who I am.’ But before trans-people can come out to other, they must come out to
The topic I have chosen to write about is the filibuster. The filibuster is a very important and unique issue in American government. The filibuster is used in the Senate to slow up or derail bills. It is also used to block judicial nominees, threatened most recently to be used against Judge Alito. It is a very strong tool especially to the minority party. The minority can use it to make a point or to try and get their way. The filibuster may be very upsetting to the majority party but will be very important to them when they one day become the minority party.
First, my topic is immigration and poverty because I have experience immigration and poverty myself. Another reason I choose the topic of immigration and poverty is the interesting and complexity that effects the most vulnerable. Also, because it is important to inform, communicate, educate other individuals of the needs, and everything immigrants have to do to provide for their families.
express that after coming out that they experienced a ‘second childhood’ in terms of dating and meeting new friends.
The topic, which I chose, is probation officer. A probation officer supervises offenders who are out of jail or sentenced to community service. It related to juvenile justice in many ways. For starters when an adolescent is sentenced, the probation officer is the first to be with the kid. Second, the probation officer is also there to look out for the kid and tell them what is right and wrong. Thirdly, a probation officer is there to keep check on the adolescent and help them in whatever way they can. Their goal is to help rehabilitate the offenders. Probation Officers work with social services, law enforcement and other department with education, training, counseling, housing and job placement. The job of the
My friends that had once claimed to be my ‘best friends’ ignored me. P.E. and track became horrible whenever I had to enter a locker room. All of the girls would stare and whisper, refusing to change in front of me like I was some disgusting sexual predator. Finally, during my eighth grade year, a popular boy named Brennan came up to me one day after school. We sat down and talked for a while before he just grabbed my hand and said, "I'm gay." He immediately started crying as I sat there in shock until, after a few moments, I just pulled him over and hugged him. I understood exactly what he was feeling, and knew that just letting him cry would be enough to help. I couldn't believe someone had come to me. Me! Of all people! Hugging him and telling him that it was ok, just accepting him for who he was, made me feel so happy. There is no feeling in the world like helping someone through something that you can relate to. It made me feel like maybe I was able to do something, even if it was little, and it gave me the courage to begin to make a difference in my schools.
Throughout this class, there were many social issues and whom they affect discussed. I loved this class for the reason of getting myself more familiar with what is happening around me and around everyone else in the world. This class was an eye opener to major social issues that people are faced with so in this paper, I am going to talk about the seven objectives we were supposed to obtain from this class.

An issue that has been affecting the local communities in the Untied Stated is homelessness. How do we prevent this epidemic and how do we come to the aid of those who need help. It also happens to be an issue with our younger generations. For some families in parts of the United States they get laid off or are not able to find jobs and become homeless creating problems for their children and their futures. It is a terrible situation to be in when it is happening to students. Sometimes it is hard to spot out these kids who are struggling. There is not much research done on homelessness based on where one would go when it first happens but these young people are doing what they can for themselves to survive. There are signs that students may be homeless but most do not bring up the issue because they are ashamed of what they have to go through. Research is always done about the numbers and statistics of homeless students and there are some methods to escape the streets but the number still continues to grow. Solutions to help eliminate homeless students in a community.
Today I will be talking about the way the authors and creators of a television commercial and newspaper article influence us to their opinion by writing the way they do. The topic that I am studying is Teenage Pregnancy. This topic is always going to be in the media for different reasons, and occasionally you hear about a story of a young girl getting pregnant due to un-safe sex. There will always be issues with this subject within society because so many people have different opinions and views of this topic and weather or not it right or wrong.
I had a girlfriend and we were openly together at school, so most students and teachers knew of our sexuality. We were the objects of a lot of hate but I had no idea how powerful that hate was until one horrible day.
Child welfare sounds like an interesting topic, over the years, I’ve read some pretty good stories about the welfare of children. For a long time, children have been mistreated, abused (physically, emotionally, and mentally), and made to grow up before their time. Perhaps you can give a voice where otherwise there isn’t.
The topic I chose is Safety and Health in the Workplace. I chose this topic because the working people need to be safe where they work and when they are safe they are healthy. They are able to make money to support their family or loved ones with ease. If their workplace is not safe they could end up using the money they make to pay their medical bills or they could be fired. The people who work around the world are already large in number and continuously increasing. While there are a number of those workers who die from injuries at work or contract a disease from a fellow worker and spread it farther than it should have spread. Although there has been a decline in work related injuries and deaths there are still people who are dying from
