I believe in Fitness and Nutrition A lot of people can call me insane, but I love working out; I also love nutrition—most of the time, anyway. I realize I don’t necessarily look like the typical fit, ripped, slim person, however, I don’t think fitness and health are all about the outer appearance. Of course looking healthy is a major component in ones’ overall wellbeing, more so mentally, but being healthy and fit doubtlessly is also about the mind, the external body, and the internal body. Since I was a child, I have struggled with my weight. I went through my childhood being a quite chubby kid and intermittently teased for it. Most of the time, I didn’t really take the comments to heart, but once in a while, they’d get to me. I always …show more content…
Even though I was probably only in sixth grade, it was still a serious thing for me. My self esteem at that point was low; I had no self-confidence, and I had no idea what to do about it.
That is when I turned to fitness. First, in sixth grade, I chose to take a significant step and gradually begin getting into fitness and nutrition. My first plan was to take up martial arts with the hope that it would get me in shape. I started going to karate and taekwondo classes twice a week and practicing at home on the other days; I basically wanted to become a beast, but that never really happened.
Nonetheless, taking martial arts was undoubtedly the most vital part in my weight loss and I gained a great amount of strength in very little time. After taking martial arts for three years, I then decided to engage in boxing. I know boxing seems like a pretty intimidating sport and let me tell you, it is. I mean, martial arts is too, though; getting punched in the face in any sport is never fun—especially from someone who knows how to professionally fight—but that is beside the point. I adopted the sports, martial

But I try to keep myself active as much as possible and put in several hours a week to keep myself healthy. I think working out actually causes plenty of positive effects in my life besides just my outer appearance. To me, exercising is sometimes a way of escaping.
After having a long day, getting home, and breaking out a ridiculous sweat working out, can be one of the greatest feelings ever. Additionally, it makes me feel like I have actually accomplished something during the day, even when I haven’t. Not only that, it also helps with being upset because it takes my mind off of whatever I am unhappy about. It also is certainly a great way to deal with anger. Some people punch walls when they’re mad, I punch a punching bag. Besides just that, it also helps me sleep better at night. Just like reading a book before bed helps some people sleep, working out helps me. In conclusion, regardless of the fact I invariably am called a lunatic for enjoying working out, I simply love the feeling of accomplishing an intense workout and knowing I can continue to push myself to become stronger, to become faster, and to improve my health in as many aspects as possible. I may not be where I want to be yet, however, I am remarkably healthier,
The thing that brings me the greatest joy is physical activity. I love outdoor sports and working out in the gym. During my school years I actively took part in football and basketball competitions, and then with the growing awareness about fitness and general health turned towards the gym. Working out in the gym proves to be a stress buster for me, provides me with increased energy levels and gives me enhanced confidence. This helps me to focus more clearly and bring situational awareness to all my endeavors. My quest to keep testing my limits gives me the confidence to handle new challenges and strive for excellence in all my goals. Exercise and other physical activities keep me calm and make me feel at
Boxing was earlier known by the name Pugilism ,meaning “sweet Science”(The Editors Of Encyclopedia Britannica).Historical evidence lead to the fact that boxing was prevalent in North Africa in four thousand B.C, it was also popular in Greek and Rome(HOB).Now Back to MMA, the fastest growing sports organization in the world ,the Ultimate Fighting Championship(UFC),started in 1993 as a professional mixed martial arts(MMA) organization(UFC). UFC matches take place inside the Octagon ,an eight-sided structure comprised of metal chain link fence(Britannica). The fence is six feet high and allows for 30 feet of space from point to point of the Octagon(Britannica). For a fight recap if a kickboxer was matched with a brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, the kickboxer would realize that he must become more adept at defending takedowns ,thus prompting him to train with a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner(UFC). From that point forward ,competitions were no longer between athletes who focused on a singular martial art ,but between to an athlete with two are or more
Thus, whether or not the case for legal prohibition is determinative, many reasons have been given for moral concern about boxing. It is perfectly appropriate for those who share such moral concerns to refuse to support boxing, to urge others to refrain from supporting it, and to advocate strong reforms in the practice of boxing. (Simon, 2001, p.355)
I would love to be physically active. I want to be the person who takes the stairs instead of the elevator because I eat correctly and I have enough energy to want to do that. I want to be comfortable with my body at all times so that I can do anything I please to do. “One study of older adults revealed that the more they expended energy in daily activities, the longer they were likely to live (Manini & others, 2006)” as found in (King, 2016 p. 528.). I think that working out every day would make you live longer and boost my
I was the oldest of two boys which means I didn’t have a big brother to call on if I got into trouble with other guys in the neighborhood that were bigger, but my brother had me and the guys he wanted me to whip in most cases had bigger brother’s. Which most of the times were already looking for me because of what he had said I would do to them for picking on my little brother? Now that I think about it not wanting to be considered a coward I guess I fought subconsciously knowing it was better to lose a little fight then to start a war I knew we could not win. I came for a single parent home and felt certain things mom didn’t need to know or I would be grounded from the few places that I was allowed to go. My mom move us to Orange Mound when I was fifteen years old , so it may have been a little different if we would have lived there from the beginning, because we would have been a part of the neighborhood and would have had close friends there, instead of being the new kids on the block. So therefore I always wished I was build like Mr. Universe and knew judo or karate. I would often day dream about being able to win against all odds because I was able to master the superior form of the martial arts. And I would sometime wonder where this style of fighting originate and why, maybe it was for the same reason that I had. With that being said, still today bigger and stronger people are taking advantage of smaller and weaker ones. It may be safe to say that more women are learning self defense techniques more than ever before. And knowing these skills can be an equalizer as seen in the Bruce Lee and David Carradine, (who just reason departed this life); movies’ which helped turn the martial arts into a trend during the 197...
On the contrary, in martial arts you are taught to control your anger. You are taught not to let your feelings interfere with your skills.
When you think of martial arts, what comes to mind? The slow, calm movements of Tai-Chi Chuan or maybe the faster, hard movements of Karate or Tae Kwon Do. No matter what you think of it always contains practiced movements of the body and a lot of concentration. These two elements combined with spirit and patience is basically what martial arts consists of. Martial arts is so great because it strengthens each of these aspects of body and mind to make a beautiful display of movement. This has attracted many people to all kinds of martial arts and with the help of the movies made it very popular among Americans. Today, many Americans prefer martial arts as an exercise to help them stay in shape.

Through my advanced training in the martial art of tae kwon do, I have come to realize the numerous benefits that this sport has to offer. I have gained many things including knowledge of self-defense, excellent physical conditioning, and a refreshing outlook on life. The rewards are abundant, however they require an immense amount of effort to achieve. Each martial art is unique and has distinct contributions of its own. This is why it is difficult to hear people generalize they are all the same. What people do not realize is the enormous difference between the individual martial arts. Today, the two most popular martial arts in the world are karate and tae kwon do. On the outside, they both seem very similar, in actuality they are on opposite sides of the spectrum.
I exercise but there is no real frequency that I follow. I might walk on the treadmill for one hour several days in a row, then do nothing for a week. I have not lifted weights in years. My husband and I practiced yoga on a regular basis but stopped when I started school and received the promotion at work. I garden and I move around some but for the most part I am sedentary. I almost pains me to say it and I just cannot believe the condition I am in. Physical fitness was important to me; I loved to take kickboxing classes and weight classes but a couple of injuries put me out for a while, and when I returned I pushed myself to hard and reinjured myself. I want to be in shape but I do not know how to get there
Martial arts classes and training consist of lessons and drills to improve strength, speed, cardio, footwork, and flexibility. The first martial art I ever learned was Taekwondo. Taekwondo strikes primarily include kicks, but also contain punches and chops. Learning Taekwondo increases speed, cardio, footwork and flexibility. Taekwondo is considered one of the more brutal mixed martial arts, it...
