I have always tutored and assisted others in math and science, but about eight years ago while pursuing my master’s degree in Wildlife Biology, I took a couple of classes that changed my life. These classes (natural resource interpretation and environmental education) opened my eyes to the fact that I wanted to become an educator. I loved my education classes and discussed with my major advisor the fact that I wanted to become involved in education. As an extension specialist, my advisor was very involved in education and community outreach and he could help me to further my pursuit of education as a career. He offered me the opportunity to coordinate the Utah WHEP (Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program), a 4-H wildlife education program. I took the position and conducted the program for three years. During my time as the Utah WHEP coordinator, I worked with youth (aged 11-19), teaching them about wildlife, their habitats, and their management. With this experience, I knew that I had definitely found my calling.
While finishing my degree, I was recruited to be a wildlife pres...
Elementary School teacher, a professional educator for grades k-5, is a career I wish to pursue because I want to teach children the building blocks of education, love the energy and excitement that younger children give off, and want to be able to help children with special challenges. I have wanted to be an elementary school teacher for about three years now, I knew I wanted to pursue this occupation because there are many benefits to being an educator, and have always worked with children well. Some challenges are I will have to get a bachelor 's degree and have to complete a state licensing exam (“preparation 1”)
I was fortunate enough to have spent my last two summers as a high school student actively engaged in numerous ways. Two summer ago, I decided to be a counselor of a wonderful enrichment program called Camp Invention, a renowned science camp for young children to explore and invent creatively. During this 40 hour volunteer service, I learned how to handle children with both care and responsibility in a subject I am greatly passionate about. In addition, I also was responsible for my employment as a cook at Hwy 55. During the most recent summer, I attended the NC Governor’s School for Natural Science, a six week residential program that focuses on integrating academic disciplines with the world around us. This was an enlightening experience,
People choose careers for many different reasons. Many choose a career because it pays well or because there is a large job market for it. Neither of these reasons was a factor in my decision to pursue a career in education, though. I decided to become a teacher because I want to have an impact on and help others. Two people have served as examples of how teaching will allow me to do this: my mother (a first grade teacher), and one of her former students.
Working at the Center for Wildlife had a huge impact on my personal growth in many ways. The center was my first experience other than in classes working in my field, so I will always hold a special place for the center, especially with the ...
A. What factors influenced me to become a teacher? This may truly shock some. I did not choose teaching. It chose me. By the end of each school year, I teeter on the thought of throwing in the towel. I mean, does it really make a difference, what I do? Can I do it again?
I really enjoy being in an artistic setting, and helping others one on one. I’d like to use these traits in a career that enables me to use my skills and knowledge, while seeking employment which offers opportunities for growth. What inspired me to teach was moulded by my own experiences of school life. I was fortunate to have teachers who were driven by helping me to achieve and prepare me for wider society. I thoroughly enjoyed my education and thrived in every opportunity that was presented to me from being a Team Leader for younger students, to completing my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, to being awarded Head Girl. I have gained leadership skills and been a positive role model. This has further enhanced my ambition to pursue my vocation of teaching. My dedication to Sociology has led me to develop an understanding that is complex and curious of the world; this knowledge I feel can be shared with students so that they too can see society from other perspectives. Through work experience and observations, I realise that teaching can be challenging because of its physical and emotional demands. I want to increase my student’s sociological awareness and trigger the same passion I feel from this subject. The aspects I enjoy most within sociology are psychological and criminological theories, and studies whic...
I am a hard-working, confident and conscientious and have a keen desire to be a primary school teacher. The main reason I want to pursue this vocation is because I love the prospect of working with children, being such an important part of a child’s life is a real honour. I have been fascinated at how quickly they learn things, gaining an insight into their perceptions and how they see the world, the idea of playing an active role in helping them develop, greatly appeals me. Having a long term goal of working with children, I believe I am particularly suited to a degree in Primary/Physical education. I gain huge satisfaction from being able to help them learn and discover new things about the world. Nurturing a child’s development is an occupation that offers huge satisfaction, both intellectual and emotional. My ambition is to be in charge of a classroom, to introduce ideas and skills to the class and observe and feel their response. The teacher’s skills of good communication, patience, clarity and the ability to explain the world are very demanding of one’s intelligence and one’s p...
Doctors, lawyers, politicians, and engineers. How did they all get to where they are today? No matter the position someone may hold in society everyone has progressed to where they are in life because they had a teacher, someone who taught them in the way they should go. Throughout my 10 years teaching, I have had the opportunities to teach in several different schools, subjects, grades, and achievement levels. I have had experiences that were amazing, and some that really made me look within myself to discover how to improve the situation for my students and myself. I feel like as an educator, I must always observe situations around me, ask questions, and when I disagree, speak a voice of concern. I believe far too often in education, we get comfortable, things get easy, and we get complacent. However, I believe our students deserve much more.
My first experience with teaching was during my duration at Ladywood high school, an all-girls high school. I noticed technology was already well advanced, and it was also in great numbers. When I first started going to the school it seemed to be a very engaging learning area but I soon found out that the teachers were struggling to keep up with the incorporation of technology in the schools, and desperately struggled with keeping students attention because of this. There was however one teacher who utilized the technology at her disposal and kept her students engaged. I saw this and compared it not only to the other classrooms but also to my own high school. These experiences led me to think why all classrooms cannot act as the students did in this one. I could see the differences in the student’s curiosity toward things they did not understand in the classroom. With everything I observed, and compared during this experience this led me to develop my philosophy
My love for teaching stems from the joy I experienced through my childhood in my family where both my parents were teachers. School always felt like a second home to me. Watching my parent sharing their enthusiasm with students during my occasional visits to school instilled encourage in me. In fact, nothing is more exhilarating than spending time watching passionate teachers engaging students who are eager to learn. During my education, I found myself subconsciously helping my classmates with their questions about schoolwork. However, I didn’t realize that it was my desire to be a teacher until I was offered the opportunity of being a teaching assistant during my PhD at Temple University.
