Not only has divorce effected family dynamics, but new laws and social acceptance has allowed for change. As times have changed the rules have been bent, and many laws have changed and or passed to allow people to have more freedom within their relationships. I am speaking specifically about the LGBT community. As the American society has become more open and excepting of the LGBT community, it has allowed many to be more honest and open about their sexuality. The acceptance of this has led to a major shift in family roles, and dynamics. Parents who identify as gay, lesbian, or transgender are slowly becoming a part of the new normal, and makes parents who are or have been divorced, separated, or single seem extremely normal.
In comparison fifty years ago this would not be possible. Now that reality television has become so popular many shows are out that display what “all-American” families can look like. For example, Keeping Up with The Kardashian, a hit reality show, which aired in 2007, shows a blended LA family of the Jenner’s and Kardashians coming together. …show more content…

The show displays three different unconventional yet “all-American” families’ go through trials and tributes in a comedic way. The show takes three different families and address’s the social issues surrounding interracial marriage, gay marriage, and traditional marriage while using humor to get the point across. Some of the characters can and do perpetuate the stereotypes associated with being part of their class. Then show does highlight interracial marriage and what challenges come with it, including language barriers, and cultural differences. These cultural differences vary based on where the individual was raised and what values where taught to them as children. When bringing together two individuals who are from very different backgrounds and race it can be a recipe for disaster. Interracial couples undergo scrutiny
