I selected my inquiry project because my mentor thought that it would be both interesting and one that would show relevant data. My mentor utilizes the method of lectures and then videos to enrich the learners, so this data would also help his teaching. I can certainly see myself utilizing this same strategy, as I see value in lecturing and then playing a video, as that will then enrich the learners understanding of the material. I implemented my inquiry project by using two class periods to do this experiment. For the first day, after a lecture on the material, I gave the learners a quiz and analyzed how well they did. The second day, I utilized a video and allowed the learners to analyze it. Directly following the video, I gave the learners a quiz on that material from the video. Both of these quizzes were npt graded. These quizzes were only four questions apiece and the questions For each of the student’s parent’s, I gave them a brief overview of where we were in the class and how their son or daughter is doing. For some students, they were failing, so I was told to say what I have done for those students and what I can continue to do. For the rest of the students, I was not required to write anything, but I did so anyways, as I wanted to make a personal connection to the students. One example of feedback that I gave the parents was, “your daughter is an ambitious learner that has great critical thinking abilities.” I tried to use their names in each comment and I then tried to say a positive comment about how well they did in either a project or some other assessment. I did this because I wanted to make a personal connection with the students, as I thought that if I did that it would influence the learning environment by showing how much I truly care about each of the students success in the
I went to the school board meeting on March 21, 2016 in Kanawha. The following people were at the council: Wayne Kronneman, Leah Deutsch, Ryan Hiscocks, Ryan Johnson, Jay Burgardt, Mona Buns, Gary Chizek, Todd Hammer, and Jon Harle. The others were mainly community member which included teachers, principals, parents and supporters. Some of the West Hancock staff included Mr. Peterson, Mrs. DeHart, Mrs. Bruns, Mr. Francis, Mrs. Gast and others. The other people who were there were parents and other community members. The first part of the meeting was the revision of the budget and presentation of the budget. This was given by Wayne Kronneman. He explained the budget of this year and how it compared to last years. Also he also talked about the budget for next year. After that they had a discussion with the

The purpose of a college English class is to challenge students beyond what they thought possible. Composition and Rhetoric 111 has been one of the most challenging classes of my writing career. Various assignments, such as a rhetorical analysis, a proposal, and a public service announcement expand one’s writing because each assignment has attributes unlike the rest. This semester of writing has stretched me in terms of writing ability, mental stamina, and adaptation ability.
I decided that for my Inquiry 4 I would be creating a website, a remix of my Inquiry 3 project, on cults. For this, I created my own cult. This was done by studying previous cults, using satire in my writing to elaborate the similarities of cults and what people perceive in cults, and using Heavens Gate (a cult from the 90s) still active website, as reference for my own. This was definitely challenging for me, as I am not tech savvy, and really helped me tap into my creative side when writing a blog for the website. In this website, there is also a store, where there are products generally associated with cults, and a small description that is associated with each product, again using satire. Through the systematic use of text, pictures, color, and tabs, I believe I have been successful in creating an ironic cult website.
My senior project entailed determining the highest efficiency wind energy generation. Using the information collected during the research process, I created a small scale, as well as a large scale wind turbine to test the different flows of wind. The small scale wind turbine measures 9 inches high and is 1/600 of a commercial wind turbine. The larger turbine is eight feet high and has a span of three feet. The inspiration behind my project is environmental engineering and sustainability. I have had many opportunities throughout high school such as a summer internship and robotics club, that have influenced my senior project product’s design and aesthetic. The final result of product is exceptionally better than I expected because of the time, research, and effort I put into creating something with the capability of
There was a significant amount of knowledge given in this course, involving concepts that in our teaching career will be extremely important. From this course I have gained a significant amount of learning experiences. I had the pleasure learning about how the educational system has come to be what it is today and who were the important people in the creation of the public education, like Horace Mann. Watching the videos and reading the chapters required has opened my eyes more of how a teacher should respond to different situations involving a student, For example when we read the chapter on the laws that revolve around the educators and the students. I had absolutely no clue that students had rights while in school property. Another learning
For my assignment I have decided to choose a group which I have just finished taking for level 1 Hairdressing and they have progressed on to level 2 Hairdressing. This is within my current role as a hairdressing lecturer at Hugh Baird College which I have done since October. Within this group there are a couple of people who have support workers. There is one student within the group who has severe learning difficulties and is a more mature student. She also has many health problems which results in her having to carry an oxygen tank around for when she has any problems with her breathing due to her having problems with her heart. There is also another student in the class who has learning difficulties, she is very clever but just needs someone there for when she needs something explaining. She also has a support worker that comes in to give her support. This student has also been going through personal problems at home and has attendance issues. There is another student within this group who has severe dyslexia. She doesn’t have a support worker but the support people who are in there do give her help as she can have a tendency to give up, not to listen and just needs to be kept on track so by sitting next to a person that does have a support worker she gets the help from them. These three students have all had their level 1 qualification extended for a year were the rest of the group have progressed on to level 2 Hairdressing. Two of these students may progress on to level 2 but one doesn’t have the ability to be able to do this as the requirements are too high for her. The reason the course was extended for them was because they were struggling with the work that was required for this qualification, but as the col...
With my personal experience with the class, I believe that it has been about learning different ways to gain info about the world around us. With this information, people gain knowledge of what they know and or maybe something new. Gaining information on certain topics does not only benefit individuals but it can give insight for an entire group of people. Learning these different methods of gaining information such as interviewing, surveys, ethnographies, etc. is not only valuable in sociological studies , but in other subjects. The information we know now when it comes to how people feel about, for example, Donald Trump, most likely came from surveys. Based on methods like that, we make that opinion a fact, no matter how small the group
How long has the instructor given to complete the assignment? The assignment was given at the start of the school year with due dates, and no given start dates.
Teacher content knowledge is significantly essential to the development of teaching and learning. How a teacher processes curriculum and their teaching style go hand and hand towards a student’s education. A teacher’s pedagogy and curriculum impacts and affects student achievement and the student’s education that they are teaching. I know that when I first started teaching my pedagogy was direct instruction. This paper provides a brief overview of my pedagogical content knowledge of math, describes my motivation to be a better instructor and ideas for whole school improvement.
What knowledge and skills are you gaining? Which of these are new and which already existed?
Student expectations and motivation are two areas that teachers focus on daily. Keeping a room full of active children engaged and learning is sometimes a juggling act so it is imperative that we as teachers understand what motivates our students. Several theories have been introduced that deals with student motivation. Each one focuses on different factors but they all have the same underlying message and that is that every student wants to succeed.
After being asked to complete three observations of different classrooms as an assignment for my teaching internship, I chose to observe a second-grade classroom, a third-grade classroom, and a 1st. grade classroom that differed from the one I am currently completing my internship in. Through this experience, I had the opportunity to observe two different math lessons and a phonics lesson, respectively. Through this process, I gained some insight into how other teachers lead and instruct their class, found similarities to the room I am currently in, and made new discoveries on how best to lead a room full of students.
High school was incredibly difficult for me. Although I loved learning and was a dedicated worker, my inability to accept anything of my self other than perfection often crippled my ability to do any sort of work. As a result, one of the most significant learning experiences that I have had in school was being shown that perfection is impossible, and that my best effort is enough. My English teacher Miss Pressman facilitated this experience during my senior year. Her empowering compassion as a “warm-demander” truly transformed not only my education experience but also my perceptions on life.
In this course I experienced an important change in my beliefs about teaching; I came to understand that there are many different theories and methods that can be tailored to suit the teacher and the needs of the student. The readings, especially those from Lyons, G., Ford, M., & Arthur-Kelly, M. (2011), Groundwater-Smith, S., Ewing, R., & Le Cornu, R. (2007), and Whitton, D., Barker, K., Nosworthy, M., Sinclair, C., Nanlohy, P. (2010), have helped me to understand this in particular. In composing my essay about teaching methods and other themes, my learning was solidified, my knowledge deepened by my research and my writing skills honed.
