“I am Malala” by Malala Yousafzai is a beautiful and hard breaking book at the same time. This book is an autobiography that describes the author childhood and her support on the right for girls to have an education. Through this autobiography, Malala describes the restrictions that are imposed on females in her country. There are many that believe that woman of Pakistan should not be educated in the other hands there are a few that oppose this idea. Malala’s support on education for girls almost cost her life, since she was shot by the Taliban. It was not until later in her life that fear started to become part of her life. In the book, she describes how first she fears for the life of her father due to his outspoken belief on the girl’s right for an education. She mentions several times that even thought she was unconsciously afraid she would tell herself that the Taliban would not go after little girls. Malala reveals in her book that she always thought that the Taliban would come after her father, not her. In her autobiography, Malala shows her admiration for her father. Malala’s father was a school teacher that works very and hard to fulfill his dream of building a school. His focus shifted once his first-born child was a girl. Bringing this information to the classroom from a counselor perspective would be done in the developmental lesson and classroom activity. One activity can be, selecting one section of the book “I Am Malala” and asking the students to write their feeling in a form of a poem. These are examples of my own reactions to certain sections of the book. It would be an opportunity to bring awareness to students on how things are different and similar in other parts of the world. However, some are beginning to yearn for change toward their culture for the good of their future. Such as a young Pakistani girl named, Malala Yousafzai who lived in Swat Valley. She chose to step up against her traditions of many not getting education equality by doing the contrary and persuaded others to join her in the revolt by, writing a novel known as, I Am Malala. Education is something various people feel extremely passionate about and would not want anything else, but a strong educational system around the world. Countless children around the world do not acquire the right to an education and various of those children are girls. Being the youngest candidate for the nobel prize, Malala inspires a multitude of girls, women, and social activist all around. She fights to create a generation who thrives in education and who lives truly how they should live in. Therefore, Malala wields surreal imagery to illustrate her events, utilizes drastic pathos to compel the readers into action, and excessive juxtaposition to contrast the American society to hers.
Malala’s father grew up in Shahpur but struggled to get his education in the town where he met Malala’s mother. They married and his dream of building a school, Khushal Public School, became reality when they moved into Mingora. Soon after, Malala was born and a favorite of her father’s. He taught her the value of education and how he had to struggle and claw his way to get a decent education. He preached that every person should have the right to go to school and be educated.
The vicious roars of the canons of the Taliban carved out the voice of Malala, who not only had the courage to fight for her rights but was also dauntless enough to take bullets in the forehead for her cause. “I’m hopeful that we all in the UN will be united in the goal of education and peace, and that we will make this world not just a better place, but the best place to live.
