Tammy Payne is a veteran teacher who has been teaching twenty-three years. She first decided to become a teacher when she was six years old, in the first grade. Her first-grade teacher impressed her to where she thought she wanted to become a teacher at the age of six. After graduating from High School she attended Mars Hill College known as Mars Hill University today. She got her bachelor’s degree at Mars Hill in Elementary Education with a concentration in Math. Fifteen years later Cherokee County had a cohort program with Piedmont College. She went to Murphy to do classes and earned her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education Pre-K through fifth. She has taught at two different schools first being Peachtree Elementary. She taught at Peachtree for thirteen years in kindergarten and first grade. In 2006, she went to Andrews Elementary and has been there ever since. She has taught first grade, fifth grade, and currently teaching fourth grade. Her fourth-grade class is departmentalized so she teaches Math for part of the day and science for part of the day. Her goal as a teacher is to make sure each student gets what they need physically, mentally, academically and create a safe environment.

When I first started to teach there was a traditional classroom and teachers were to teach straight from the textbook. Now textbooks are almost obsolete, where they aren’t used much anymore. A lot of internet based programs are used now and we did not when I first started. Education has become less struc...

...n’t have the resources or funding, then that is where Mrs. Conley comes in to help. We have a lot of support we use not to have. In the next twenty years, I see a lot of change that may possibly change with the way it has changed since I first started teaching. I hate to say this but I see fewer teachers in the classroom and more virtual schools. I see this happening because of the way technology has changed and one teacher can handle three or four classrooms at once. I hope it doesn’t happen but I’ve seen a lot of this happening. I know of children whose parents have taken them out of the school system already and put them in the virtual schools. I’m afraid that since there is a shortage of teachers, especially in North Carolina that more parents are going to go to virtual schools. There not going to be able to find the power in order to put people in the classroom.

Essay on The Teacher As A Teacher

- The teacher plays a crucial role in education because they are the initiator, facilitator, and assessor. Instead of education being based upon the teacher, there is shift in the process of education and a different understanding of how true learning takes place. The teacher acts more like a guide than a very strict dictator-type figure....   [tags: Education, Teacher, Learning, Pedagogy]

The Teacher : The Good Teacher Essay

- “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” This quote by William Arthur Ward is perhaps my favorite message in regards to education and the role that teachers play in the lives of their students. Though young in age and with obvious faults, I make up for it with life experiences that sadden, amaze, and inspire those who are eager to listen and to learn. A brief description will show that growing up I was taught to be a “southern gentlemen”, that is to be respectful to everybody, have proper manners, and most importantly to be a hard worker....   [tags: Teacher, Education, Substitute teacher, School]
