Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) is an illness that millions of people of all sorts are affected by. Moreover, although stress and emotional tension can temporarily increase blood pressure; but it won’t be considered as high blood pressure. Hypertension usually is there with no symptoms. It may happen and remain unseen for many years. People, until told by a medical physician generally overlook high blood pressure. People are not aware of how hypertension affects the body, how it is measured, what the symptoms are of high blood pressure, and what people/ethnic groups are affected by hypertension more than another. Recent research has revealed that under diagnosed hypertension affects millions and millions of people ranging from adolescents to the elderly. High blood pressure affects many lives, but most people are unaware of what high blood pressure is. (“Merriam-Webster Dictionary”, 2014) High blood pressure is defined as an “abnormal elevated blood pressure especially of the arteries.” Also know as hypertension. An individual has to know what hypertension is in order to battle it. (Heart.org 2014) Hypertension is when the arteries pump the blood back and forth to the heart is under high pressure, which in turns makes the heart work even harder to get blood pumping to the rest of the body. Hypertension is not triggered by emotional stress or tension, but may create your blood pressure to increase. To know if a blood pressure is normal or high, one will need to know what numbers to look for. (Heart.org 2014) Normal blood pressure for a person is when the systolic pressure is below 120 and the diastolic pressure is less than 80. Ex: 120/80. Knowing what normal blood pressure is or when blood pressure will be considered pre-hy... ... middle of paper ... ... 2012) Some of the types of medications are diuretics, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, and alpha-beta-blockers. Ex: Lisinopril .To find out which medication cocktail that will work for you can be determined by your doctor. Always consult a doctor regularly to get ensure the warning signs of high blood pressure are taking care of early. Understanding blood pressure and becoming aware of the signs and symptoms will allow people to be better informed of how it affects the heart and the body. After doing research, I did not realize how common Hypertension and how most are unaware they have it until something serious happens. I would strongly suggest that everyone get his or her blood pressure checked regularly. Seeing that so many Americans have are affected by high blood pressure, it make be even more aware of what I put into my mouth along with diet and exercising.
Ace Inhibitors are used to treat hypertension and congestive heart failure (CHF). Most of the drugs that are Ace Inhibitors have the common ending –pril. It inhibits an enzyme; that decreases the tension of blood vessels and the blood volume, thus lowering blood pressure. Lotensin (benzapril) comes in tablets and is used for oral administration. It is one of the ace inhibitors that are indicated for treating hypertension. There is warning while using Lotensin when pregnant, it indicates to stop using immediately when pregnancy is detected. Vasotec (enalpril) comes in tablets and injection. It is indicated for the treatment of hypertension and is effective alone or in combination with other Ace Inhibitors agents, especially thiazide-type diuretics. There is a warning for fetal toxicity; when pregnancy is detected; stop using.
For example: if hypertension goes untreated then it could potentially lead to stroke, heart attacks, and untimely death. Early detection and improve patient outcomes by educating the patient on lifestyles changes and effective drug treatment. It is important for the patient to alter their eating habits, as well as their sedentary lifestyles and monitor their blood pressure levels. Feasible and affordable screening approved by the patient is also important: for example, electronic monitoring can make it easier for the patient to obtain their levels without causing harm and cost effective. Blood pressure is measured by mmHg (millimetres of mercury) and it is written as two numbers. The first number is the highest pressure that the heart reaches in beats and the second number is the lowest blood pressure reached between the heart beats. A normal blood pressure level in adults is blood pressure less than 120/80 but for someone with CKD; high blood pressure is if it is 130/80.
The Mayo Clinic’s book on High Blood Pressure was full of detailed facts about blood pressure and what it is. This is extremely significant to the experiment because blood pressure is one of the variables being tested. Understanding blood pressure is one of the key components to receiving accurate results from this experiment. Most of the book is on high blood pressure, which is not necessary for the experiment, but the book still had plenty of useful information about blood pressure itself. The book explains that when the heart beats, a surge of blood is released from the left ventricle. It also tells of how arteries are blood vessels that move nutrients and oxygenated blood from the heart to the body’s tissues. The aorta, or the largest artery in the heart, is connected to the left ventricle and is the main place for blood to leave the heart as the aorta branches off into many different smaller
The fundamental caring skill that was chosen to demonstrate knowledge and understanding within a reflective framework was recording blood pressure. Blood pressure was chosen because it is a critical physiological function and a fundamental indicator of well being (Fullbrook 1993). It is an important and vital observation, in that it allows early therapeutic intervention should a patient’s status change (Fullbrook 1993). This essay will also demonstrate an understanding of best practice for the theory of blood pressure measurement of the patient. The factors which can influence different results in the measuring of blood pressure. In a model of reflection to aid the reflective process Gibbs (1998) was chosen.
Blood pressure is a measurement of the force against the walls of your arteries as your heart pumps blood through your body. Hypertension is another term used to describe high blood pressure. This common condition increases the risk for heart disease and stroke, two leading causes of death for Americans. High blood pressure contributed to more than 362,895 deaths in the United States during 2010. Approximately 67 million persons in the United States have high blood pressure, and only half of those have their condition under control. An estimated 46,000 deaths could be avoided annually if 70% of patients with high blood pressure were treated according to published guidelines (Patel, Datu, Roman, Barton, Ritchey, Wall, Loustalot; 2014).
Systolic blood pressure is 120/80 the diastolic blood pressure within normal range. Any blood pressure above 139/89 is pre-hypertension. Stage one hypertension is between 140-159 or 90-99, Stage two 160-179 or 100-109 diastolic and Stage three 180 above diastolic110. (Lewis, S.M, Heitkemper M.M &Dirksen, S.R 2004) pg 779.
Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure is a medical condition where the arteries are constantly experiencing high blood pressure due to the force exerted on the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood throughout the body.
What is hypertension? Hypertension is a medical condition where the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated. (Nordqvist 2013) Hypertension is commonly known as high blood pressure. If hypertension is left untreated, it can cause severe health problems such as stroke and heart failure. In order to treat hypertension, the drug Losartan is used. Losartan is an angiotensin-II receptor antagonist (AIIRA). In other words, it can also be known as angiotensin receptor blocker. (Allen 2012)
High blood pressure (hypertension) is a major health condition which affects many Americans. This health condition may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. A normal blood pressure consists of systolic blood pressure divided by diastolic blood pressure, 120/80mmHg (millimeters of mercury). High blood pressure is defined as systolic pressure which is greater than 140mm Hg, and diastolic pressure which is over 90mm Hg. Hypertension influences the health outcomes of black Americans more than other races in the United States. Racial discrimination and socioeconomic status are two major factors which influence the rate of high blood pressure in the black American population.
Ally most likely has used ACE inhibitors and Beta blockers in the past and will be using them again.. The ACE inhibitors are vasodilators with the capability to widen the blood vessels allowing the blood pressure to lower down while improving the blood flow and decreasing the workload of the heart (WEbMD, 2017). Lisinopril is anangiotensin converting enzyme. This drug is used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure, helps to preent kidney failure --due to high blood pressure and diabetes. It is also used to prevent further damage and scarring of the muscles (Medicine Net, 2017). Another Ace inhibitor is Benazepril. It is used with hydrochlothiazide, at times, to treat high blood pressure. It can also be used to treat heart failure. Beta blockers are medications that lower your blood pressure.Beta blockerd work by blocking the effects of the hormone epinephrine. Two types of Beta blockers are Metoprolol relaxes blood vessels and slows down the heart rate and Nebivolol, which response to nerve impulses in certain parts of the body, like the heart (Mayo Clinic Staff). This helps to lower heart beats and decrease the blood pressure (Mayo Clinic Staff,
Blood pressure is measured by two pressures; the systolic and diastolic. The systolic pressure, the top number, is the pressure in the arteries when the heart contracts. The diastolic pressure, the bottom number, measures the pressure between heartbeats. A normal blood pressure is when the systolic pressure is less than 120mmHg and Diastolic pressure is less than 80mmHg. Hypertension is diagnosed when the systolic pressure is greater than 140mmHg and the diastolic pressure is greater than 90mmHg. The physician may also ask about medical history, family history, life style habits, and medication use that could also contribute to hypertension

Our arteries and veins are like hoses, they normally have a nice clean flow, but sometimes our blood pressure can be raised when bad things happen to them. Arteries can get clogged, and that happening is much like sticking your finger at the head of the hose to make the water squirt farther, the same amount of liquid has to get through but now with a smaller hole, so it has to go faster (Tamarkin Ph.D., 2011). Blood pressure is always faster right at the end of a ventricular systole, because the blood receives a large push from the contraction and that speeds up all of the blood in the body for a little bit. The blood pressure is also determined by how fast the heart has to beat to get the blood to the body, so higher blood pressure normally occurs when one is doing a lot of physical activity, is angry, or is under stress. The pulse we feel when we feel our wrist or neck is a surge of blood coming from our heart, so when our pulse is faster than that means our blood pressure has risen (Cordova, et al.,
Hypertension: this occurs under high stress levels and increase the body’s risk of having a stroke, heart attack or kidney failure. The burnout phase of stress can contribute to a permanent high blood pressure.
