Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) is an illness that millions of people of all sorts are affected by. Moreover, although stress and emotional tension can temporarily increase blood pressure; but it won’t be considered as high blood pressure. Hypertension usually is there with no symptoms. It may happen and remain unseen for many years. People, until told by a medical physician generally overlook high blood pressure. People are not aware of how hypertension affects the body, how it is measured, what the symptoms are of high blood pressure, and what people/ethnic groups are affected by hypertension more than another. Recent research has revealed that under diagnosed hypertension affects millions and millions of people ranging from adolescents to the elderly. High blood pressure affects many lives, but most people are unaware of what high blood pressure is. (“Merriam-Webster Dictionary”, 2014) High blood pressure is defined as an “abnormal elevated blood pressure especially of the arteries.” Also know as hypertension. An individual has to know what hypertension is in order to battle it. (Heart.org 2014) Hypertension is when the arteries pump the blood back and forth to the heart is under high pressure, which in turns makes the heart work even harder to get blood pumping to the rest of the body. Hypertension is not triggered by emotional stress or tension, but may create your blood pressure to increase. To know if a blood pressure is normal or high, one will need to know what numbers to look for. (Heart.org 2014) Normal blood pressure for a person is when the systolic pressure is below 120 and the diastolic pressure is less than 80. Ex: 120/80. Ex: Lisinopril .To find out which medication cocktail that will work for you can be determined by your doctor. Always consult a doctor regularly to get ensure the warning signs of high blood pressure are taking care of early. Understanding blood pressure and becoming aware of the signs and symptoms will allow people to be better informed of how it affects the heart and the body. After doing research, I did not realize how common Hypertension and how most are unaware they have it until something serious happens. I would strongly suggest that everyone get his or her blood pressure checked regularly. Seeing that so many Americans have are affected by high blood pressure, it make be even more aware of what I put into my mouth along with diet and exercising.
