Hybrid Solar Lighting
Introduction
Hybrid Solar Lighting (HSL) is a type of lighting system that combines natural solar lighting with standard electrical lighting. This system directs pure sunlight into the interior of a building. Benefits of HSL include money savings, increased office productivity, and agricultural development. Sunlight Direct, manufacturer of HSL systems, is conducting beta tests in 12 locations in the United States. The Sacramento Municipal Utility District was one of the first to facilitate HSL testing.
The Hybrid Solar Lighting system is made up of three main parts. These parts are the solar collector, optical fibers, and hybrid luminaires.
Solar Collector
The solar collector resembles a satellite dish; but instead of receiving a TV signal, it collects light from the sun. The collector is installed on building rooftops as seen in figure 2. Three main parts make up the solar collector:
Primary mirror: the large reflective dish (about 4 feet in diameter). Made of plastic and built to withstand harsh weather conditions.
Secondary mirror: the small reflective dome protruding out from the center of the dish. Another mirror used to reflect and concentrate light.
Fiber optic receiver unit: the small tube at the center of the dish. Connects to the optical fibers and transmits light through them.
Solar Collector Function
Sunlight reflects off the primary mirror and focuses into the secondary mirror. From there, the beam of light bounces into the fiber optic receiver unit. A tracking system inside the collector calculates the sun’s position using a global positioning system and the local time. Throughout the day, the solar collector repositions its dish to follow t...

Studies show customers are more likely to make purchases in stores that offer natural lighting instead of electrical lighting; customers considered the electrically lit stores to be dull-looking. Natural sunlight gives the impression of a brighter room. Other studies found a strong correlation between natural lighting and increased academic performance, as well as office productivity.
Skylights offer natural lighting at an affordable price, but they have several disadvantages to Hybrid Solar Lighting. Skylights do not filter out heat from sunlight nor are they able to distribute light over large areas. Because HSL systems use optical fiber, multiple building floors can receive natural sunlight. Skylights are limited to top floors only.
Mirrors are first introduced in part one of the novel where Clarisse is describes as a mirror by Montag. Also presented by Granger towards the end of the novel, the mirror is a symbol of the lacking self-reflection but also it cure. Mirrors reflect a perfect image of a person back at them – an image that is neither tarnished nor beautified. Mirror here are a symbol of seeing within one’s soul in pursuit of rebirth, and are a tool to be used in the search what has gone terribly wrong in such an empty society. In a society that lives without living, thinking or feeling like Montag’s looking into a mirror ma spark a thought, and a thought may spark that internal rebellion. Furthermore, metaphorical mirrors are of equal significance when understanding this symbol. Clarisse is Montag’s inner mirror; she reflects the personality and life of Montag back at him, allowing him to learn and question what he sees. Montag is also Faber’s mirror – he reflects Faber’s recent emptiness and his cowardice at not attempting release society from its suffering. Mirrors are a great symbol of self-actualization that leads to rebirth in the novel Fahrenheit
This mirror reflects the whole scene and is curved so it doesn't show just one part, but it shows the whole image from the floor to the ceiling. It shows not only the reflection of the bride and groom, but also the reflection of two other figures thought to be Jan van Eyck himself and another witness to the ceremony. As I looked closer at the mirror I saw small circular images that bordered it. At first I thought they were battle scenes but when I was able to see it clearer I saw they were bible scenes. More specifically, different scenes from the life of Jesus.
Solar energy is energy taken from the light that reaches earth's surface from the sun. There are four different kinds of solar energy, which are active solar systems, passive solar systems, photovoltaic cells and concentrating power systems. An active solar systems is a system that captures solar energy by mechanical means. Common active solar systems are often in buildings or homes. Some examples are roof collectors and water heating. Low Intensity and high variability have limited the use of active solar energy in Canada. A pass...

The sun has been a major aspect of life since the beginning of time. People used many other forms of energy before electricity was discovered. There has been a debate over energy resources for years. Many people are worried about what current energy resources may be doing to the environment. Oil spills and nuclear power plant mishaps have only been a few accidents that have had a big impact on the environment and the people who inhabit it. There are plenty of energy sources that do not harm the environment and are still able to get the job done. Solar energy is one energy alternative that will insure the betterment of the country and, at the same time, protect the natural environment.

... and monthly water filling. Solar energy is the cleanest and purest form of energy, allowing for cleaner air overall in our environment. There is great hope for a lot more solar panels to be installed worldwide. Solar is a viable alternative energy with solar panels becoming more affordable and more efficiently designed.
Solar energy is a renewable natural source of power that can be used to refuel vehicles but can also heat and light homes; which can potentially enable users to not rely on public utility companies to supply power. The creation of solar energy requires little maintenance. Once the solar panels have been installed and they are brought up to maximum efficiency there is little else to do to ensure they are in working order. As governments are doing their part by encouraging citizens to recycle, they also realize the importance of creating renewable sources of electricity; worldwide and locally they offer rebates and monetary incentives to those who install solar panels and solar hot water systems. Solar energy facilities can generate electricity whether there is sun shining or not. As the advancements in solar technology and the price of solar electricity begins to go down, tra...
Isaac Newton created the first 'practical' reflector in 1668, which included a small flat diagonal mirror to reflect the light to an eyepiece mounted on the side of the telescope. With time, telescopes became bigger and more sophisticated, and astronomers discovered more stars and galaxies. They were also able to calculate the distance between stars. Most of the large optical telescopes used for research today are reflectors.
