Human Trafficking- The Escalating Global Violation of Human Rights

Human Trafficking is a serious Global matter that violates a multitude of the Human Rights articles outline in The Universal Declarations of Human Rights. Thousands of individuals are subjects of Human Trafficking every year; the perpetrators of this crime do not discriminate, targeting men, women, the young and the old all over the world. Human Trafficking is indeed a Global issue, occurring in nearly every country on the planet. Not only does this heinous crime include sexual exploitation and forced labour, it is also a large contributor to the transnational organized crime epidemic. Although there are already measures put in place to put a stop to this issue it is important to continue to examine current measures in order to see what is successful and what could be improved. This paper will do just that and provide recommendations for further UN intervention to tackle this horrific Global issue.

Human Trafficking- People for Profit

Ranking amongst one of the most expanding issues across the globe Human Trafficking it is a multifaceted issue that threatens human rights, the fight against transnational organized crime and national security. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes’ treaty, ‘United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime and the Protocols Thereto’ defines Human trafficking as:

‘The recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over...

The aim of the recommendations presented to you in this paper is to aid the measures that are already in place and provide new strategies to ensure that trafficking in persons, transnational organized crime, violation of human rights and the threats to Global security are minimized and ideally ceased.
