Recommended: Human trafficking in the past in the us

In 1865 slavery was abolished in the United States. At least that it was most Americans believe but that is not the case. In today’s society we have an issue that is just a horrific as slavery back in the day. It is the trafficking of women and children. The online Oxford Dictionary defines human trafficking as, “ the illegal movement of people, typically for the purposes of forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation.” Therefore, this is modern day slavery. Women and children are being tortured, abused, and scared physically and mentally for the rest of their lives. Also, once in the sex-trade business it is very unlikely that the victim will come out alive. About 30,000 women and children are found dead each year due to them being victims of sex-trafficking. Many people think of sex-trafficking being an issue in third world countries but the truth is that many of the victims end up in the United States. Human trafficking is an issue that is sugar coated in the United States and not enough action is being taken to help these women and children who are trapped in this tragic lifestyle.
The emotional damage that is caused to sex-trafficking victims is unbearable to even imagine. Being rescued from the sex-trade does not end there. Most people do not even think about the emotional pain that these women go through before they can even begin to think about leading anything close to a normal life again. In the book Sexual Enslavement of Girls and Women Worldwide Nina Cummings and Andrea Parrot disclose, “ Mosquito was the first person who raped me…Then he ordered his men to continue the act. Nine other men continued to rape me…After misusing me to their satisfaction, the rebels left me alone in a very hopeless condition…Even now ...
