Someone who forces you to silence your voice is like silencing your soul; thus, makes you wear a fake mask so that society does not see that you are breaking inside, full of fears that cover your life. This is how the victims of human trafficking feel every day. They hide or do not speak because they feel that no one will believe them or are afraid of being abused. Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery, there is more slavery now than ever recorded in human history. Human trafficking happens every day in plain sight and behind closed doors. Many of these victims are sold, brought here illegally or legally and even kidnapped. The victim 's mental stability is not valence because most of their life they experience other abuse. Human trafficking is an exploitation of human beings for forced labor, sexual slavery and can even lead to domestic violence.
Forced labor is one of the cases of human trafficking. The abuser promises victims a job so they can help their families out of poverty. When they have gained their trust, they take advantage by controlling them. Often the abuser threatens the victim by saying he’ll kill them or the people they love or with a threat of immigration if they do not do what they were told to do. The victims can be isolated, bring down more their self-esteem, so they cannot defend themselves or call for help. Some victims may “take jobs as migrant, domestic, restaurant, or factory workers with little or no pay” (“Human Trafficking Program”, 1). These are some kinds of jobs they take. The victims have “little or no pay” making them a modern slave. The victims can even work for three or more jobs, but never get the money they work for. That damages the victim 's mind and soul. It very difficult to see some are victims of human trafficking because they are hidden and their voice cannot be heard, but if you feel you are a victim or you may think someone is you can find assistance in 9-1-1 o r call National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) at 1-888-373-7888. Also, you can report it directly to the FBI to help you. Another thing you can do is inform your community about this topic directly to be on the lookout. Look for programs to help people that went through this nightmare. To be honest, this is not easy to stop it, but educating people about human trafficking existence is a good first step. Get involved!!!
