The Role Of Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is a current international issue. It appears globally from in poor and rich countries, and developed and underdeveloped nations. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (2016), human trafficking is defined as trading people under the forms of "recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons", then controlling and forcing them to perform prostitution, labor and services, other activities like slavery, or organ removal.

Nowadays, human traffickers have mainly been working in the complicated networks of groups. In those networks, each unit conducts a specific role like modern business organizations which have multiple departments like researching, recruiting, transporting, and selling.

The resource in Vietnamese society is more and more limited; meanwhile, the social goals are higher and higher. The reason is that Vietnam is a young population nation with plenty of human resource at a time when the national economy cannot produce enough jobs. As the result, many people have been looking abroad for jobs. This creates opportunities for criminal groups or organizations to trade people

The jobs for trafficked human are ranged in all areas such as prostitution, agriculture, domestic services, construction, and factories. National Human Trafficking Resource Center states that when demand for the commercial sex or labor exists, the supply of sexual or labor exploitation is created; as a result, a market for trafficking is established and make traffickers profit. Vietnam is a developing country in South East Asia whose currency has less value than developed countries. Hence, international companies from those countries can save more money by hiring Vietnamese laborers.
