June 19, 1865 was the day that slavery ended in the south. However, slavery is not over for the 300,000 children under the age of 18 who may become victims of sex trafficking each year. Reports state that sex trafficking generates a profit of $32 billion every year. This is problem is an ever present struggle in today 's society. Many of these people, young and old, who are in the business of human trafficking today, are trapped in it against their will. However, legislative policies, and current courses of actions are working to eradicate the industry of selling humans. However, many trafficking victims remain unseen, operating out of private establishments, such as massage parlors and spas (Goldberg, 2014). One sign that someone may be a victim of human trafficking is that one person does all the talking for three or four people. The victim is submissive and the one person is clearly dominant over them (Hoffman, 2014). Human trafficking migration patterns tend to flow from east to west. However, there has been reported cases in all fifty states. The top twenty highest volume cities include Houston, El Paso, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Charlotte, Miami, Las Vegas, New York, Long Island, New Orleans, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Phoenix, Richmond, San Diego, San Francisco, St. Louis, Seattle, and Tampa (McLaughlin, 2015). Shockingly enough, Nevada is one of the few places where sex trafficking is actually legal. Eleven counties in Nevada allow sex trafficking through brothels. A brothel is a place where people may come to engage in sexual activity with a sex worker, more commonly known as a prostitute. These brothels test their employees weekly for Sexually Transmitted Diseases and have many different ways to ensure the workers safety. Many of these girls use this because of financial dependency.
