There are 100,000 to 300,000 underage girls being sold for sex in America, and the average age of entry into prostitution is 12-14 years old. Human Trafficking and human smuggling are some of the fastest growing areas of international criminal activity, according to the United Nations. Human Trafficking can be compared to a modern day form of slavery. It involves the exploitation of people through force, threat or deception where Human smuggling is the attempt of transportation or illegal entry of people across an international border. At 17 she was tricked by a friend who told her about a job in Europe for her to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a hair dresser. She was introduced to an agent who paid for her passport and had her arrive at Irish airport where she was met by a strange man who took her passport and brought her to a house along with two other women. She later found out her “job” was to give sexual services to men 24/7. When she refused to do so, the man locked her up, raped her and threatened her family with the 3,000 she owed. The other women advised her to not go to authorities because she would be sent back to her country. She was forced to become a sex slave. She tried to get one of her sexual partners to help her but the men had no interest in her stories and only wanted sexual pleasures from her. When her “master” found out she was trying to escape.
