“Human resource management is the process of employing people, training them, compensating them, developing policies relating to them, and developing strategies to retain them” (Diaz, 2012). In recent years, there has been a shift in the human resource function within an organization. Management once viewed the HR function as a more specialized clerical role. Human resource managers are continually trying to transform and adapt to the changing employment demands. Human resource management is a vital asset to any organization, as it had become a strategic partner that enhances the abilities of an organization helping to ensure the organization’s success. Today, human resource managers are required to be adapt to their current environment by switch between administrative roles to more of a strategic partner.
For some organizations, it is difficult to forecast projections into the next decade, and many factors contribute to a company’s success or failure. These factors include the economy, supply and demand, and internal factors such as management and technology limitations. The incredible nature of a globalized workforce is consistently changing, through employer expectations and employee performance.
Human Resource Function within an Organization
The human resource department is responsible for an array of duties, from recruiting and hiring, to training and creating employee retention programs, to ensuring fair compensation and helping to solve problems within the organization. Human resource managers advocate for employees, representing employee concerns, and encouraging employee contribution within the organization. Human resource management in any organization can prove to be challenging. After all, human resource managers are dealing with humans. Human resource managers are expected to create positive and safe work environment, promote creativity within the workplace, keep up with the current laws and regulations, and be a strategic partner to each department within the organization. In this modern, technology driven world, human resource managers have to face the challenges of industrialization and globalization. These challenges can be met with encouragement and motivation.
