The Human Race: Dependent on Technology
Technology has become such an important facet to our daily lives, without it, our world would be significantly different. Having this accessibility to the internet, social networks, adult dating sites and youtube help us stay connected with old and new loved ones. All this information and online technology tends to have us living in an online world. Making our human race has become overly dependent on gadgets such as smartphones, computers, smart tv’s, laptops, wifi and video gaming systems over the past few years. We see people in the video we watched online for the Windows phone ad, walking down the street, in restrooms, restaurants, weddings, and sporting events, on their handheld devices, unaware

The addiction to networking sites and people wanting to to know what is going on with friends and family, every minute of the day obsessing over what is said about them and their loved ones on social sites has become a growing problem with our teens. Some assert that these web sites attribute to addiction and cause some people to commit suicide over what is being said about them. The ability to maintain many different social personalities and false identities can lead to others being conned into a relationship that can steer them into trouble. Some web sites, such as porn and dating social networks contribute to cheating on significant others, often leading to divorce. Because of the public use of these sites people have been fired from their jobs or put under scrutiny by their employers because they use these sites at work or because something is posted on a site that undermined the person’s professional standing. So we see that technology can have both negative and positive impact on our social relationships and social interactions with others, but how can this new technology benefit our society?
Technology today has had a major impact on overall sense of living. It is slowly taking over our social lives and quickly creeping into our relationships and everyday activities. Nearly everyone is the proud owner of a cell phone, tablet, laptop, smart tv or desktop computer. One of the greatest influences that technology has had on our lives besides entertainment and social networks, is the knowledge we have at our fingertips, the countless digital content and websites that provide us with educational books, articles, and youtube videos that can teach us just about
Our modern day society depends on technology for everything, can anyone imagine a life without their phone or computer? Probably not, social media and other popular applications have become so ingrained into our daily lives. Not only can we connect with people anytime throughout the day but we also have so many useful applications that help us on a daily basis. Thinking back to when I was eight years old, I couldn 't wait for sixth grade because my parents had promised to get me a cell phone, I remember counting down the days till the summer of fifth grade was over because I already knew which cell phone I wanted. Once I got it I couldn’t stop showing my mom all of the cool things it could do. Which looking back at it today, it really couldn
As the use of technology increases, people can’t help but question how it will affect the well-being of the world’s future. People’s lives are constantly evolving due to constant technological advancements. Some of these advancements include improvements in machinery, television, computers, and smartphones. While some have helped to improve work and efficiency in both the workplace and the classroom, it is questionable if they help to improve people’s lives as a whole. A big part of modern day life revolves around computers, tablets, and smartphones. Some people are finding this to be easy to adapt to, while others are not. People are starting to become very dependent on technology,
Technology is a controversial issue in today’s world and especially in my world; it is important to understand that my father owns and operates a successful computer sales and repair business and so my knowledge of computer usage is quite extensive having not only listened to my father, but also having completed a high school computer internship. I am also currently working in a Technology Fellowship program. When it comes to the topic of technology, most of us will agree that technology surrounds us in today’s world—from television, smart phones, video games, tablets, to computers—we can readily access multitudes of information by simply accessing a computer internet search or turning on the television news. Technology has been a part of our
The twenty first century is the age of the “Internet” which guarantees people information at the touch of their fingertips. Intelligence of any subject can be acquired- personal or private- in a matter of seconds. This method of public privacy is practiced by numerous social networking websites, which hold personal data of its users. Facebook and Twitter have promised to engulf people with their warmth, keeping them interacted with friends, updated with trends, and connected with society. While several buy into this ruse, they neglect the undesirable effects of networking, which eventually led to depression, presenting a social paradox. The virtual relationships formed online through social networks, are intended to replace physical interaction; people become immensely socialized through a new avenue of communication and remain “connected” with friends or family. This common contact behind masked computer screens eventually becomes insufficient. Yet, people seem to be addicted to social websites resulting in a continuous, daily dependence upon these networking mediums. The more society becomes reliant on social networking, the more people become victims of isolation and depression, as these types of websites merely detach people from physical communication and significant interactions.
As technology propels society into the 21st century, the archaic form of paper is being replaced by a digital world. Many see this shift as a positive because the world is going “green” and saving paper. Some say this change simply makes their lives easier. Others, however, are not so excited about it. The thought of everything going digital makes many people uneasy. No longer will people be sitting on their porches chatting about the evening’s newspaper, but rather, the evening’s newsfeed. Although there are many benefits to social networking, there are just as many dangers associated with it, particularly with adolescents. Social networking, while used by millions of people around the world, can be detrimental to one’s well-being when used in a negative manner.
The dependence of technology begins by the belief that it is an essential part of our daily lives, and for many it’s like food or water. Without it or the lack there of would most certainly cause drastic changes in our lives. The average American checks their cellphones for text messages or emails up to 40 times a day, and 16 minutes of every hour is spent online whether it be email, texting or social media. Seven out of 10 married couples polled, admitted to checking their devices (computer, cellphone or tablet) for messages before saying good morning to their partners. Six out of 10 children polled didn’t know what an encyclopedia was because all answers to homework questions or research is done on the World Wide
Technology has changed our world dramatically over the last several decades. Several generations before us did not have air conditioning, telephones, television much less internet. However, today we have access to all of this and more. Technological advances have not only made changes in how we communicate, but also in how everyday tasks are done. The New York Times explains how social media affects children’s behavior and academics, and how the concept of dating has been altered while Louis C. K. explains how the 21st century takes little things for granted and YouTube channel charstarlineTV shows how daily activities can no longer be done without the use of cellphones.
The topic of technology and our society has become a very controversial subject today. Many people believe that technology is an essential component of our modern world, helping us to improve communication from farther distances as well as giving us easy access to important information. On the other hand, there is the opinion that too much technology is affecting social interactions and our basic development. “Technology…is a queer thing, it brings you great gifts with one hand, and stabs you in the back with the other.” (Carrie Snow.) The CBC Documentary “Are We Digital Dummies” displayed the pros and cons when it comes to modern technology that we use in the western world everyday.
Technological advances rule today’s modern world, from iPods to smart phones millions of people around the world rely on technology to help them function in their daily lives. Accompanied with internet we quite literally ...
I agree that technology and the internet can affect an individual, a group of people, society, and the world as whole creating habits due to the "overdose" and/or the daily "dose" of this. But, as we have seen, the main and most important goal of technology is to connect people across the globe, regardless of their religious beliefs, home, among other forms of aspects that can hinder communication. However, technology has faced several challenges that have made it fail to achieve its stated goals. Despite that, it has become not only in a toll for our lives but also an advantageous load in one way or
Social media is so popular that according to a recent article published by forbes.com, “72% of American adults are currently using social media sites; that figure has gone up 800% in just 8 years”(Olenski). Social networking was originally created to simply reconnect people with old high school pals, but in recent years it has evolved into a completely different operation. When social media first originated it was also intended for adult usage, which has in recent years expanded into the usage of all ages. Social media can create a negative affect on lives because it has been proven to be a dangerous addiction, for it takes away interpersonal relationships that are essential in life, and it has been proven to prevent people from being productive in life.
Today is an era of information explosion. In the past few years, many newly invented technological devices and software are now tightly integrated with our everyday lives. Today, people can look up almost any kind of information, make friends, communicate with others, and express ourselves with the simple touch of a button on a device we usually keep within arm’s reach. “Widespread use of technology is changing the way we work, learn, and communicate – even the way we carry out our regular, daily activities.”(Seifer and Mihalynuk) These devices not only benefit our livelihoods and increase our happiness, but they are also integral in advancing education, technology, development, and, in general, human evolution. The children of today, who have been raised in this era of information explosion, will undoubtedly reap such benefits and, in turn, advance society towards a better generation.
The opinions of many people vary on technology and the effects it has on today’s society. Some say that it’s more beneficial than anything, others completely disagree, and some have mixed emotions. Would you rather read out of a book, or play online learning games with a possible risk of eye problems? It’s about taking matters into your own hands. 71% of people believe technology has improved their lives. 76% of people completely disagree by saying that technology creates a lazy society and that is distracting and corrupting. Daily life with technology is also another huge issue in society. According to a survey taken in January 2013, people feel their work productivity has dropped 8% in the last year. They also felt that their relationships with their family at home dropped 4% in the past year. The opinions vary, but they are needed to show how technology is affecting different people.
Social networking sites are like cakes. As all know, cakes are sweet or delicious. When people eat cakes, they will feel comfortable and full. However, when people eat more cakes, the disadvantages of cakes will appear, such as gaining weight. Social Networking sites are also like a double-edged sword for relationships. Sometimes social networking sites will help relationships, and sometimes it will harm relationships. When users use social networking sites, users can easily keep friendships with old friends and make new friends, users can find more topics for people to communicate, and social networking sites can enhance relationships between friends and avoid some embarrassing topics. However, social networking sites also harm friendships
...ile Steven Pinker believes that social networking is improving society and Sherry Turkle finds it to be harmful to individuals, the real answer lies in-between the two positions. “It is a well-known fact that the web is a valuable asset for research and learning,” stated Sue Scheff in her article “Social Networking Sites Can Limit Interpersonal Skills and Physical Activity,” “…[but] it can also be a very dangerous place” (1). While the Internet is beneficial in gaining knowledge and connecting with others, it will always come with downsides as well because it can become addictive and an easy source for predators and bullies to prey on those who are vulnerable. Ultimately, “it is in our collective interest to ensure that the Internet lives up to its potential as a revolutionary connective medium” (Pariser 11) while being aware of the risks and practicing self-control.
